These books are not required reading!
As have many of the reviewers here, I've read all of Jan Karon's books. I find them to be comforting, soothing, safe cozy books to read. Sometimes, when life is truly stressful and anxious, that is exactly what I want. I draw a hot bath and read about a kind gentle world where nothing bad ever happens without a solution. People die when they're old, people give up their addictions, people ...

Parlay your IRA into a family fortune
This book shows you basically two options. Give most of your tax deferred assets to the government after you and your wife's death, or set it up so your kids and/or grandchildren get it. It is amazing how many financial and legal types that I have shown this too that didn't know about Stretch IRA's. Great book to teach you how to keep your hard earned dollars in the family instead of sending ...

Puss-in-Boots strikes again!
I really liked this book, the 6th in the series. I was just turned on to the series a few months ago. After buying a used copy of Bloody Jack from Amazon and devouring it, I ran to the closest book store and bought a stack, from Blue Tattoo to Missippi Jack. I was lucky to always have the next installment, as each book ends leaving the reader begging for more. By the time I got to Miss. Jack, ...

Utterly riveting, un-put-downable
Into Thin Air is a true account of a fatal expedition to the summit of Mount Everest in 1996. Jon Krakauer, a journalist and hobby mountaineer, went with a group of climbers on their quest for the summit in order to document the effort for an American publication. Due to bad weather, some poor choices, and competition between summit guide companies, four of the five teammates in his climbing ...

Good Book
I bought this book for a Spanish class. The class has finished, but I like the book enough to continue thru the book, on my own. I would recommend this book. Every chapter has a list of around 30 new words to learn, a paragraph written in Spanish using the new words (along with CDs that say the paragraph verbally), then about 6 more pages of questions/hints/tips.

Enjoyable read
This is a great fun book, and a thorough study on human behavior. Among many of the wonderful discoveries of the author regarding how we experience happiness, I was particularly taken by his remarks on emotional experiences (feelings) based on present information and emotional experiences originated in memory (pre-feelings) and how the mind without awareness is able to mix them up and is not ...

Very accurate and explained things I didn't understand during the Battle.
This book is a very good book about the battle. I served with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force during this battle during Operation Phantom Fury. After returning home and seeing this book I immediately bought it. When you are on the ground even with a high level of information there are still things you don't understand and this book explained some of the things I still didn't understand even ...

Phenomenal Biography, modestly written
I purchased this book two months before I had the courage to read it. I feared it would be too upsetting and entirely depressing to engage myself in. The book begins with a wonderful history of Paul's life. His vivid descriptions of The Land of A Thousand Hills, the banana beer, the family, his path to hotel management. It is an interesting story about a young man growing up in Africa. ...

Interesting Account of Literacy Education
I read this book because I was interested in literacy education. This is hands down, one of the best and most interesting books I have ever read on education in general. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in teaching literacy or remedial education or will be working with such students. Rose's achievements with students was acceptional and successful. Rose debunks a lot of ...

Does what it says at a price you can't argue with.
This is definitely a great companion for any Linux administrator or hobbyist who is trying to become a level 60 command line warrior. There are plenty of commands to familiarize yourself with, and they are grouped logically (rather than alphabetically), which means that when you look up a command, you can find other similar commands in the same section. This book was written with Fedora Core ...

My favorite chemistry text
Ebbing Chemistry presents chemistry as "physics at the atomic level." It seems this text is geared towards those majoring in chemistry, physics, or engineering and not necessarily biology majors. Some texts are vague, while Ebbying's clearly explains core concepts like atomic structure, the gas laws, and stoichiometry. Clear, logical problem-solving is stressed and demostrated with examples in ...

Exceedingly Sweet action!!!
I got this book because I find pre-columbian Mesoamerica fascinating, and I also enjoy the vivid clash of cultures which occured when the Spaniards arrived there. This book describes the conflict between the Aztecs and Spaniards superbly! This book is somewhat unique among histories because it takes the point of view of the vanquished rather than the victors. It starts from before the Spaniards ...

One of my Favorites
Janet Evanovich is one of my favorite authors. Tweleve Sharp is about Ranger and someone is pretending to be him. The 'second Ranger' has kidnapped Ranger's daughter, and Ranger is wanted. And 'of course' Ranger's goes to Stephanie house for help. This is one of my favorites of the Plum series because it shows you more of Ranger. ***I'm a totally Ranger fan.*** Stephenie had some 'close' ...

Just Plain Fascinating
In this unusual little book, George R. Stewart has compiled an endlessly intriguing account of the whys and wherefores of American place-names. The book as a whole provides a haunting, curiously oblique perspective on American history, as he delves into the cultural, historic, and (sometimes) military themes behind the names we use every day. The book goes into the names of cities, states, ...

Not as bad as I thought it'd be
3.5 stars. The events in the beginning of this book, told from Mat, Perrin, and Elayne's perspective, occur simultaneously with the ending scene of the previous book, Winter's Heart. The last several books, beginning with A Crown of Swords, have slowed down time-wise considerably with events occurring a few days to a week after the conclusion of a prior book. Therefore, the plot also slows ...
