Still great
While this has been my least favorite of the Maguire books that I've read (although, admittedly I have not read Lost, which I've understood to be not quite Maguire caliber) I am still awarding it 5 stars because it was still one of the most amazing reads! I have said this is in other Maguire reviews, but I love the worlds he creates. The imagery and storytelling is unrivaled. I love that he ...

My whole family loved this Robert Sabuda book
I'm a fan of clever dimensional art and this book is one of the more impressive works I've seen. But I was most impressed with the fact that the rest of my family was impressed too. They loved these beautiful and ingenious creations that arise from one page after another.
The Jungle Book: A Pop-Up Adventure (Classic Collectible Pop-Ups)

Condensed classic with great pop ups
This book is a condensed version of the original accompanied with wonderful pop-ups. It has six two-page spreads, but there is also at least one partial-page fold out on every spread (partial pages are half the size or smaller than the main page). The main spreads each have a large pop up. The partial pages, typically two mini two-page spreads themselves, all have a pop up per spread, too. When ...

Gingerbread Girl
A great new take on the traditional story, this book tells the story of the gingerbread boy's younger sister! A fun story. My students and I love it.

A new spin on an old story
This book is the classic story of the "three little pigs" from the wolf's perspective. It is a bit funny, sometimes very funny, but more important, it shows children, that even if you think you KNOW what happened, there is always two sides to every story. It is an entertaining way to teach children not to engage or believe gossip, but to seek out the truth. Additionally, it shows how both sides ...

Steamy fairy tales
This group of fairy tales was very steamy and original. It is explicit but written in an old fashioned way that I found extra exciting. Some of the more outstanding stories I thought were Beauty and the Beast, Cat and Mouse, Cinderella, The Empresses' New Clothes and Mirror on the Wall. There are many interesting and validating points made about women in the telling. I see by the reviews that ...

Excellent CD set
This 8 CD set is one of the best self help series I've heard. It really helps to put life in perspective and manage emotions in a positive way. I've listened to it at least 3 times through, while driving to and from work. I get something new out of it each time.

The Three Snow Bears
As a Kindergarten teacher I relish a new great book to use with my students at school. This is a wonderful, artistic, multicultural adaptation of the original Three Bears folktail. Thoroughly enjoyed by the kids, as well as, myself. Jan Brett's illustrations keep you coming back fora closer examination as her borders are rich and give clues to what's happening next and while the story moves ...

You'll believe in fairies, too
Oh, the cleverness of this book. It creates a fanciful world of its own. It would be a treasure for anyone to own, young or old. Especially for those who refuse to grow up. Each of the six page spreads has an amazing pop-up in the center as well as a collection of smaller pages--each with more pop-ups--that tell the story of Peter Pan. Altogether there are 28 pop-ups. It's an awfully big ...

What a HOOT!!
I remember this poem in song form from my childhood. I hadn't thought of it in years, until my grandson told me his teacher had read it to him in his pre-k class. I was delighted to find this book on Amazon.com. I was thrilled to see it's large size, bright colors, crazy pictures, the old lady's stomach expanding to accomodate each new animal. I wasn't bothered (as a child) by the phrase "perhaps ...

Great shorter read.
I read this directly after finishing Sphere. It's a very fun book and Crichton does a good job getting you into the culture. Good action and good character development.

Flawless execution of timeless classics
I don't know what I can add, really. I bought this book based on reviews already posted, having compared it to about a dozen other Aesop's Fables compilations available on Amazon. This one stood out far and above the competition in the reviews, and it did not disappoint. From the binding, the paper, printing quality, to the actual format and selection of artwork (including a lot of familiar ...

An EXCELLENT ending to a good trilogy.
This was a very good trilogy, but the finale, this book, was by far the best. The Winter King, book 1, and Enemy of God, book 2, were both well written, entertaining and interesting (I gave both 4 stars as they were good but not great), but this book finishes off the trilogy with war, carnage, destruction and misery; it had its good things too, but we are talking about dark ages England and what ...

The urban Gingerbread Boy story
Set in New York City, Richard Egielski's version of The Gingerbread Boy is a treat for the eyes. The illustrations are richly detailed and colorful, and my 3 year old son loves this modern version. He and I talk about the characters and details, telling stories within the story. Our favorite illustration shows of a group of construction workers who pause in their work to chase that ...

Maid Maleen thrown on its head in this haunting twist
I was a little displeased with Hale's "Enna Burning." I'm happy to say this made up for it. Hale takes the fairy tale of Maid Maleen and sets it Mongolia--with the tale's ignored maid as our main character and heroine. The story is told via Dashti's journal, an account of she and her lady's imprisonment in a tower and their life afterwards. Hale takes many liberties with the tale, but I could ...

creative, rich and wonderful
I loved how detailed and orginal the story was. It's like T.H. White instead of trying to tell the complete story of King Arthur, takes little snippets of the parts he thought were particularly interesting or wonderful and makes them beautiful and rich with life and meaning. His words are full of love and light. The Once and Future King

very well done
I very much enjoyed reading this version of Beauty and the Beast, although I would suggest that parents take into account that this teen book is based for a more mature audience. There were definite scenes within the book that were risque'. Kyle/Adrian (he changes his name when his character changes) is the beauty and the beast in this novel. He was very beautiful and knew it, but when he ...
