compelling portrait of a downward spiral
Alanna Nash's biography of Jessica Savitch is a fine work, richly detailed and competently researched. In reading the story of this gifted, tragic woman one recalls the old Greek dictum, "Those whom the gods wish to destory they first make mad." I recall witnessing that now famous Sunday evening news broadcast, many years ago, when Jessica appeared in a foggy, bewildered state. I was busy with ...

Makes a great gift!
I bought this book for my grandmother, who loves country music and who has visited Branson, for her birthday. She absolutely loved it! The pictures in the book are really colorful and fun to look at. I recommend this book for hard-to-shop-for friends and relatives, especially country music lovers.

A tale of growing up and acceptance with a strong female lead who shows, without being ultra feminist, that girls can accomplish anything that boys can.

Excellent survey of 40 years of John Wesley's work
Alanna Heiss, director of P.S.1 and deputy director of the MOMA, gives us an unprecedented overview of the work of Wesley, an artist originally considered a Pop Art painter who has continued to work in a highly recognizable, consistent style over his career. With high quality, large scale color images of all of his pieces in the 2000 P.S.1 show and many more black and white photos of additional ...

I love this book
Alanna Moore has written a lovely book which covers breeds (of chickens and ducks), housing, feeding, breeding, diseases, useful herbs and tonics, and a whole chapter on useful plants to grow, 'the permaculture forest', all in the context of keeping chooks in your backyard.

Bytes of Poetry
I found the selection of poems in Bytes of Poetry to be as delectable and intriguing as the contents of a good candy sampler. The poems address experiences we have all had in the course of living, experiences of an emotional nature, particularly those involved in relating to loved ones. Topics such as loving, longing, mating, finding meaning together, and parting are tastefully explored. The ...

Great book!
Song of the Lioness has the entire series combined. The print is a bit small but that's my only issue with this book. If you like this series, buy this so you don't lose a book!

Wonderful Story
I read this before I read the other series (Song of the Lioness)so I really had no background info on the setting. The plot is intriguing and the details back it worthwhile.

My favorite of the 'Song of the Lioness' quartet!
Alanna is still disguised as a boy in the palace and is now a Squire. And not just any squire...she's Prince Jonathon's squire! This book is probably (in my opinion) the best of 'Song of the Lioness' quartet. Her secret is known by only a few people; of course her twin brother Thom, George Cooper, Alanna's great friend and thief, and Prince Jonathon who's been Alanna's friend for years. In ...

Amazing and Impressive work!
I wrote the following review for a group of teens in 2004; over the past four years I've re-read the series several times. If anything, I find the books even more enjoyable now! ~*~*~*~ What luck that my daughter chose this series to read! I often read the books she chooses before she does so that we can share in the joys of discussing them, with this being no exception. With this quartet ...

Deftly written to echo memorable in a true `theatre of the mind' experience
Enhanced with six interior woodcut illustrations by Alana Marohnic (who also did the cover art), "Woodstoves & Ravens" showcases the lyrical free verse poetry of Robert E. Farmer who draws his themes from a wilderness sojourn in the boreal forest on the Canadian north shore of Lake Superior, near Thunder Bay. Deftly written to echo memorable in a true `theatre of the mind' experience, "Woodstoves ...

Held hostage by this book
Holy cow THIS IS A GREAT book, I had to by it so I could eat and read at the same time and not worry about smudges. The characters were a deep well, each one unique and interesting. This is the 1st book in this series and I am totally hooked. The plot and dialog was fulfilling, unpredictable, and thorough. THIS was a great BOOK!

These books are why reading is so wonderful
I am in college to become a librarian for young adults. This book, and all of Tamora's books are the first thing I recomend to anyone who even might enjoy fantasy fiction. This book, and all of Tamora's books, are entirely suitable for any age group. Not only is the content suitable for children but the story is written with crystal clarity in language that enable an 8 year old to ...

Reader...Then a Teacher
This review is more for the entire "Lioness Quartet" quadrilogy, rather than this final installment in the series. I was introduced to this series as a young girl of 11 or 12. They remained my favorite books for over a decade. The Lioness Quartet combines both magical, imaginative story telling with a strong feminist message. Equality is a powerful underlying theme in this series. When ...

The best rock management biography ever written
The title including the word "Extraordinary" is fully justified. I thought this book would be a "dishing the dirt" epic on Parker but it turns out to be a very well researched lifetime biography of the Colonel's life and not just his involvement with Elvis. The well told story is of a man who from poor beginnings in Holland was involved in a murder there and forced to flee to the USA at an ...

Sword and Shackel Is my fav.
Personaly this is one of my favorite books. It's one of those books you can read and re-read again and agiain, without getting sick of it. The way Farris is writtin and the way Alanna portrays him is awsome. Then the differennce you see from Farris-to-Bantam is wonderful. If you like reading books that don't hold back and make the characters seem above everything, but sound realistic but also ...

Exciting page-turner
In 'Haunted', Paul Slater from book #4 makes a reappearance and Suze is even more certain of the fact that her first impression of him was wrong. Paul is a mediator and seems to know more about the gift than Suze does. At first, Suze is disgusted by Paul and wants nothing to do with him but as time goes on, she finds herself wanting to know more about their shared gift. At the same time, ...
