Changed the way I look at plants.
Allergy-Free Gardening really did change the way I look at plants. I have a background in both horticulture and botany and yet there was so much new material that I learned from this book that I was frankly, amazed. I knew a bit about plant sex, but in retrospect, very little. In Thomas Ogren's eyes all plants are not created equally--or at least they certainly are not equally of value to us. In ...

A GREAT Cookbook for Families with Kids
I love this cookbook! It has been a lifesaver. My toddler son is allergic to milk, eggs and nuts/peanuts so trying to put together meals that the entire family can eat and enjoy has been challenging. Also I work full time and there a few slow cooker meals as well as meals that come together fast. The book also lists menus and snack ideas which I have used on ocassion. I got the book about ...

The BEST Wheat Free Cookbook on the market
The Wheat Free Cook is a fabulous resource for the Gluten Free Community. It is thorough in describing the flours and ingredients available. The recipes are quite easy to make, the end product is absolutely delicious and the best thing about the book is that finally there are nutritious recipes to be made, something that is not seen in many gluten free cookbooks. I have had the book for more ...

Delicious Cupcakes for Vegans and Meat-Eaters Alike!
It was a chilly Sunday morning in March when my parents announced they were going to become vegans. In their hazy, half-asleep state, the morning radio show to which their alarm was set had been replaced with a talk show. That morning's guest was a doctor and very vocal vegan who insisted easy weight loss was within one's grasp if one simply went vegan. After a week of listening to my pensioner ...

This and Ogren's previous book, "Allergy-Free Gardening" should be on everyone's shelf, whether they garden or not. If you want to know why allergy incidence has quadrupled in the last few decades and asthma deaths have reach alarming numbers, this book explains it. Ogren's OPALS ranking scale can help us choose appropriate trees for our own gardens, plus he gives lists of recommended ground ...

Great for multiple food allergies & Mom who's not a great cook
This book is an extremely useful resource, especially for someone like me who doesn't cook much and who discovered she has a kid with multiple food allergies (by multiple, I mean soy, wheat, oats, corn, rice, buckwheat, cow's milk, egg, some fish, peanuts, shrimp and multiple insensitivities like several fruits, meats, vegetables, gluten). I had no idea what to do for a kid who was allergic to ...

Definitive book on MSG for the non-specialist general reader
George Schwartz, M.D. wrote the first edition of In Bad Taste more than ten years ago. Since then "the use of MSG and MSG-containing substances has more than doubled." While some people can use MSG with no adverse effects, many others have severe reactions to it, some of them life-threatening. Kombu, a seaweed, was first used in Japan as a flavor enhancer. A Japanese doctor isolated the ...

An Excellent, Easy Resource
One reason I like this particular cookbook is that it not only addresses my gluten intolerance, it also addresses my lack of time and energy. Most of the recipes require minimal prep and make extensive use of handy appliances like the food processor and blender. Some recipes take more cooking time, but it's the sort where you cover the pot or throw the pan in the oven and forget about it until ...

Breathe Easy Again
Of course, I bought this book because I am an allergy victim. I still remember when they broke out. It was like having the rug pulled out from underneath my feet. One day you are carefree, the next you are sneezing your brains out. Work was out of the question. Everything was out of the question. My life was a living hell, and I wondered what I could do to regain some semblance of health ...

Excellent
A highly intelligent overview of many illness that are directly or indirectly connected to allergies. What struck me most was the way the author shows a truly deep understanding of the complex causes of each illness and yet offers meaningful treatment options. It should be noted that the book is primarily intended as an introduction (though it goes further than any introduction) to using ...
