Windows Presentation Foundation Unleashed (WPF)

Unleash the hounds!
Something about SAM's unleashed lineup, as of late, has me dancing about with a renewed vigor and WPF Unleashed is yet another log on that fire. Some review the document as being somewhat a general reference as well as being a bit on the extremist side demanding formal training in the WPF realm of discipline. These are somewhat erroneous ascertions as the only real requirement is a basic ...

Best Book Out There On Retouching
If you don't like Scott Kelby's Court Jester writing style, get this book. It's written professionally in easy to read phrases. I own both Kelby's and Eastman's book on this topic, and both cover similar things, but sometimes Kelby's results are more to my liking and sometimes Eastman's are. They cover different things too. Excellent book.

Photoshop Elements 5
I have Adobe Elements 5 on my computer but try as I might, I have barely been able to do the simplest things using the tutorial. After reading all the reviews I could find on books for the program, I settled on this book by Scott Kelby. As soon as I opened the book up, I immediately tried doing the one thing I struggled with, and like magic, every step took me where I wanted to go. If I can ...

Photoshop Essential
Although written for Photoshop CS, "Photoshop Masking & Compositing" can easily be applied to CS3. Eismann's experience as a teacher enables her to present complex material in an easy to follow style. The magic of Photoshop jumps off the pages. If you can sit down at a computer and follow step by step instructions in a book, you will wonder how you ever lived without this book.

Fantastic Book For Future Authors!
I have written over 30 books that have been self-published, and I wish I read this book a long time ago. This is a fantastic resource for anyone who is about to write a new book. There are a lot of great books out there for people who have already written and published their book, but if you are an aspiring author, this is a must-read for you! Buy this book, write your book, decide how to ...

The Holy Grail for any Web Analytics Junkie
I've been promising this book review of "Web Analytics: An Hour a Day" by Avinash Kaushik for near six months and it has taken every week of six months to finally make it all the way through this book. I've spoken many times about Avinash and his wonderful blog "Occam's Razor" which this book being the pinnacle piece of the writings on that blog. Avinash is an analytical genus and the knowledge ...

.Net on Steroids !
A Classic Book that begins it's journey, where all books end. The true difference between a casual programmer and a disciplined programmer is more prominent in his/her code when they start using advanced features of the framework. A true programmer knows his stuff in and out and knows how to leverage the features of the framework effectively in every line of code. And to get to that level of ...

Must have for a Newbie!!
Ok, I have read all of the reviews saying "It's just a fancy manual". That may be the case for someone with previous DSLR experience. I, however, have never owned or operated a DSLR before my XSI. I read the manual and, frankly, much of it read Greek to me. I'm not an idiot but the practical application to much of it was lost on me. This guide changed that. Ben Long does an excellent job of ...

A crucial read for anyone responsible for presentations
Before speaking at a national event, I put myself through a public speaking crash course that included multiple coaching sessions from my wife--whom was a national forensics champ in a previous life--and by reading this book. The two balanced each other perfectly. This book is written in an easy prose style that goes down like a drink of water, and is packed full of both useful philosophies for ...

Absolutely the Best
I must say that Lynda is, hands down, the best instructor I've ever come across on the printed page. I've been using Dreamweaver for over two years and I learned so much from this book. The chapters and exercises were so concise, so ordered and really a lot of fun. I recommend this book whole-heartedly!

Excellent Guide
I really like the insights into the Federal hiring process provided by this book. Since the author is a full-time Federal hiring manager, I find her information refreshing, helpful and enlightening. She provides a "real world" perspective about what to do and what to expect. Although she gives a high level view of how to write a Federal resume, her example resumes are a very good guide to follow. ...

Clear, concise, and thorough
C# 3.0 in a Nutshell is just about perfect. It describes the language and the relevant .NET libraries in a clear, concise way, with meaningful examples and a much appreciated lack of author interference. C# is the star of this show, and the authors stay out of its way. This book has one purpose - to document C# 3.0. No more, no less. So, don't come into this book looking for clever anecdotes ...

It doesn't get better than this. Now we need a 2nd edition.
If you have a bit of programming experience, this book together with access to the NT Resource Kit tools will provide you with the foundation for doing almost anything you could imagine within Windows NT Shell Scripting. The book can be used both as a tutorial and a reference for Windows NT scripting and gives good examples of the commands, tools and concepts covered. For Windows NT, this book ...

Fantastic book, maybe not for the absolute beginner
My current project at work required me to learn COM. I purchased several books to assist in the learning, and I must say that this book is absolutely indispensible, both as an instructional medium and as a reference. I highly recommend this book to anyone needing to learn about COM. What's inside? It starts with a basic intro to COM, useful (dare I say it) for managers as well as the ...

Joel is doing an excellent job in presenting his arguments. He's funny (in most cases) elegant and you can find yourself saying: mmmm, he has a point. You don't need to read it cover to conver, though I really recommend doing so. My favorite chapters: Strategy Letter II - that is the Chicken and the Egg problem.
