Mathematical Statistics with Applications23 reviews
Dennis Wackerly, William Mendenhall, ...

Duxbury Press, 2007

Mathematical Statistics with Applications
If you have to have this particular book for a class, then you have no choice. But, if you don't, this book has a lot of problems with very little help in solving them, unless you obtain a solution manual.

Linear Algebra and Its Applications, Third Updated Edition11 reviews
David C. Lay

Addison Wesley, 2005

A very good introduction to linear algebra
The highest quality of a book is the ability to teach yourself from it. Lay's book is very self-teachable because it is written in a non-pretentious, explanatory way, making sure you get the big picture while making sure you can do the little details. It reminds me of Griffiths books in physics. It is a little proof light, so I can respect that a mathematician who is into analysis might ...

Principles and Applications of Assessment in Counseling3 reviews
Susan C. Whiston

Brooks Cole, 2008

Everything the counselor needs to know about assessment.
Where was this book when I had to take an assessment class during the fall 2001 Term? At any rate, even though I have already taken an assessment course, I bought this book anyway for my own personal reference. Crazy you say? Consider this... Counselors have to be good consumers of assessments and the information they yield. While no one in their right mind advocates the "test and tell ...

Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications88 reviews
Kenneth Rosen

McGraw Hill Higher Education, 2006

A good book
I like this book and use it for teaching my students. As a teacher, you have the opportunity to select similar problems for class activity and homework assignment. Also, you can find not only simple and middle-level problems but also high-level problems to provide a good source for active students. Unfortunately, the author uses the letters "F" and "T" in the truth tables instead of much easier ...

Calculus and its Applications (11th Edition)2 reviews
Larry J. Goldstein, David I. Schneider, ...

Prentice Hall, 2006

Not bad.
Calculus in itself is a complex subject. The textbook gives examples and if you really read into the examples you will understand. I am no math expert and I was able to succeed with this book. The last few chapters are the toughest and the explanations are a bit hazy in these sections. But all in all it is isnt bad at explaining how to do calculus.

Mathematics with Applications (9th Edition)2 reviews
Margaret L. Lial, Thomas W. Hungerford, ...

Addison Wesley, 2006

good book but very expensive
Each chapter has examples and problems but no much explanation to solve the problems. Expensive book considering the information and help provided by the book. Same information (chapter by chapter) can be found in many other similar books, which may be lesser in price.

Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications12 reviews
Kenneth H. Rosen

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2006

Updating Review...
I gave 1 out of 5 stars to this book on my previous review based on the fact that my professor assigned a lot of homeworks, and many of them I found that there were no discussions/ or no related concepts represented in the book. Several of questions ask about the problems that the author never mentions in his text. I found myself in desperate situation with those questions, so I purchased a ...

Benson's Microbiological Applications: Laboratory Manual in General Microbiology, Short Version1 review
Alfred E Brown

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2008

Not the greatest, but it works
I wasn't a big fan of some of the questions and lab experiments we had to do with this manual, but it got me through the lab class and I ended up with an A. So, it was useful, but kinda dry and boring.

Discrete Mathematics with Applications17 reviews
Susanna S. Epp

Brooks Cole, 2003

Before you buy
Hello all, Just like many reviewers, I give this book 5 stars, why? First of all I am a senior majoring CSE and I hate all college text books. This book is an exception. The first three chapters is introduction to logics nothing much. From chapter four on the good stuff starts, induction, set theory, recursion, representations, and more. The book has lots of examples and exercises, also the ...

Calculus and Its Applications (9th Edition)4 reviews
Marvin L. Bittinger, David J. Ellenbogen

Addison Wesley, 2007

Well written for the beginner
This book is great for the person new to Calculus as I was at the time I went through an earlier version. The examples are well written, with the steps easy to follow. Interim steps to the result are not skipped as has been the case with other Calculus books I've read. The book begins very simply, so someone with just algebra can follow. I can not overstate the importance of working through ...

Finite Mathematics and Its Applications (9th Edition)1 review
Larry J. Goldstein, David I. Schneider, ...

Prentice Hall, 2006

Nothing to differentitate it from the other finite textbooks
I am always trolling for a new and better textbook for my finite mathematics class. In my search, I have found a repetitive sameness to the books that are available. The only constant and real differentiating factors to the books are the order of the material and the quality of the writing. Occasionally, a book will cover a topic that the others don't, but often when that is done; it is a ...
