Graeme Kent, Aesop

Checkerboard Pr, 1990

ENJOY READING AESOPS FABLES TO MY SON
APROXIMATELY 3 YEARS BACK I BOUGHT AN AESOPS FABLES BOOK AN IT WAS AMAZING. I READ THE BOOK A LOT OF TIMES, I FELT I WAS THE CHILD NOT MY SON. THE BOOK WAS LOST, AND EVENTHOUGH MY KIDS HAVE A LOT COLLECTION OF BOOKS NONE CAN BE COMPARE TO AESOPS FABLES. EVERYTIME A PASSED BY WHERE A BOUGHT THE BOOK I ALWAYS LOOK TO SEE IF THEY ARE STILL SELLING AESOPS FABLES, BUT THEY DON'T SELL IT ...

Aesop's Fables1 review
Aesop

LONGMEADOW PRESS, 1988

a good collection
There is an introduction, recounting the history of Aesop's Fables. In terms of number of stories, this collection probably can't be beat. 200 stories are included, and are listed in alphabetical order in the table of contents. In this edition, each story is told briefly, usually in one page or less. I recommend this book for ministers, speechwriters, or anyone else wishing to make a point ...

Fables (Everyman's Library Children's Classics)4 reviews
Aesop

Everyman's Library, 1992

Definitive version
This 17th century translation by Everyman's Library, while at times difficult because of the Elizabethan English, contains expanded reflections that explain the moral behind each story. This edition emphasizes the importance of character building and morality rather than mere entertainment. Presented in a schoolbook style, this text is a wonderful book for adults as well, especially those ...

The Ant and the Grasshopper3 reviews
Amy Lowry Poole, Aesop

Holiday House, 2000

Beautiful artwork!
I liked this retelling of a classic -- especially in the slight twist - yes, the ants have foresight but they are workaholics and the grasshopper may not be industrious but he appreciats the beauty of a summer night. But it's the elegant illustrations that really catch my eye and highlight this story. Delicate ink strokes with sharp details on rice paper capture the spirit of chinese art ...

Aesop's Fables Illustrated by John Hejduk2 reviews
Aesop

Rizzoli, 1991

They teach children glorious values for a lifetime.
Aesop's fables show us how some lessons never change. They represent an important part of the way we live our lives and hope to live our lives. These fables will be passed on for the rest of our lives

Aesop's Fable the Tortoise and the Hare/Book and Cd-Rom1 review
Aesop

Random House Childrens Books, 1993

Amazingly excellent!
This is the first Living Book CDROM I've seen, and I'm _very_ impressed! It is great! The animation is great, and isn't slow even on my very old computer, the sounds are great, and it's really fun! The book can be read aloud to you (in either Spanish or English) while you watch the animated pages of the book illustrating the story. The main lines of the story appear in text at the top of the ...

Aesop's Fables (Penguin Popular Classics)1 review
Aesop

Penguin Classics, 1996

Arabs are still liars...
No matter who authored these fables--Aesop, if he existed, or a committee of Greeks and Romans--they are wonderful, time-transcendent stuff. There is more ethical philosophy in certain of Aesop's PARAGRAPHS than in the bloated books of some philosophers. So many cultural tropes (did I just write "tropes"? I apologize.) spring from Aesop: tortoise and hare, fox and grapes, town-mouse and ...

Carol Watson, Aesop, ...

Usborne Books, 2003

Aesop's Fables are a hit!
After studying fables in our classroom, I purchased Aesop's Fables for each of my students. They were thrilled! I highly recommend the book.

Three Fox Fables1 review
Aesop

Methuen young books, 1972

A Review of Galdone's "Three Aesop Fox Fables"
In this Paul Galdone book, three of Aesop's classic tales are retold. The first story is "The Fox and the Grapes"; the second is the "The Fox and the Stork"; and the last is "The Fox and the Crow". The artwork is typical of Galdone. The writing is sparse without being Spartan, and if I am not mistaken, this book was originally published as one of the 'Weekly Reader Children's Book Club' ...

Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, T1 review
Aesop

North-South / Night Sky Books, 1998

A wonderful message in contentment
This is a creative book that brings across the message that the grass only looks greener on the other side of the fence. In the end both town mouse and country mouse learn that their own homes are what they truely love. Teaches one to be grateful for what one has. My children love this book.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf: Yellow Level (Read-It! Readers)1 review
Eric Blair, Aesop

Picture Window Books, 2004

A great story with a great meaning
This is a cute story to read to children. The pictures are wonderfully illustrated. It is a great way to show children what happens, when they don't tell the truth. Children want you to read it again and again.

Aesop's Fables (Illustrated Stories for Child.)3 reviews
Aesop

Gramercy, 1999

A Beautifully Illustrated Book!
I couldn't believe the price on this book after I saw all the beautiful illustrations in it. The pictures are gorgeous, and full of expression. I also was impressed that it contained so many of the fables. I counted 82 fables in the index. I only expected a dozen or so for the size of the book. This book is a wonderful bargain, and I can't wait to read it to my children!

The Aesop for Children: With Pictures by Milo Winter2 reviews
Milo Winter, Aesop

Childrens Pr, 1985

FABLES FOR FUN; MORALS TO LIVE BY!
THE AESOP FOR CHILDREN WITH PICTURES by Milo Winter is a wonderful storybook full of stories every child should own. Aesop's fables are short stories with a moral at the end. This is a beautifully illustrated hardcover book that will last much longer than a paperback version. I highly recommend this out-of-print edition over the paperback that is readily available just for this reason! This book ...

Fables from Aesop1 review
Aesop

Oxford Univ Pr (T), 1977

A beautiful rendition of classic tales.
When it comes to childrens' books, sometimes the illustration is as important as the text. The illustrations in this book are derived from hand-stitched textile pieces - colorful and imaginitive. Sketches for the textile works are printed on the endpapers. Each page has one of Aesop's fables told briefly enough for a small child to digest, and in simple language that is easy to read out loud. ...

Aesop's Fables (Signet Classics)3 reviews
Aesop

Signet Classics, 1992

A delight!!
I loved these short fables. They are full of wit and charm. They also have some serious political overtones, warning us how to survive tyrants and the evil who are so often in power (whether in government or in the office where we work). The illustrations are just right. Kids will love this but adults will be very stimulated to find that these fables apply to their lives also. A wonderful ...

The AESOP for Children7 reviews
Aesop

Rand McNally, 1984

The best money you'll spend for a book.
This collection of some of the most memorable of Aesop's Fables is written in clear and elegant prose, beautifully illustrated, and perfect for pleasure reading and instruction. We use it as part of our homeschooling writing exercises. Our daughter reads a story, rewrites it in her own words, and illustrates it. We discuss the saying that attends each story and also the phrases that have become ...
