Ko...koibito #2
My friend, Musouka, introduced me to this wonderful series and it's just like she said - it's not just a shoujo manga. It has aspects appealing to both sexes. I mean it has EVERYTHING: gang wars, guns, drugs, hidden pasts, a PLOT that has romance and wonderful character development. I enjoyed reading the series (in Japanese) and was literall turning page after page: What's going to happen to ...

Never judge a book by its cover!
I picked up vol II of this manga by accident, and it sat in my room collecting dust for a very long time. One day, out of boredom, I picked it up. I remember thinking to myself: what an ugly cover...and that I didn't really like that style of drawing anyways. However, as soon as I got past the first ten pages...I couldn't stop myself from finishing the manga and wanting more of the story. ...

Banana Fish, Vol. 31 review

VIZ Media LLC, 2000

On the run and searching for the truth.
It seems that trouble follows Ash, though he does leave a trail for it to follow. Volume 3 starts with Ash still in prison, where he's being held for a murder he didn't commit, and where he's being dogged by minions of the man who framed him. Fellow prisonmate Max Lobo has declared himself to be Ash's protector, and Ash doesn't seem to have much say in the matter. Once Ash learns about his ...

Top favorite manga!!!
I've been collecting manga since before they ever hit the American shores. As such, I've read a great many crap load of manga. And, yeah, this one's old, but you know, so is Akira and that one kicks ass too! Do not, I repeat, do not look this manga over simply because of the old school style drawings. The story more than makes up for it, and yes, the drawing style does grow on you. Ah! I can not ...

Banana Fish, Volume 16 (Banana Fish (Graphic Novels))
Akimi Yoshida

Akimi Yoshida made her manga debut in 1977 with the college manga story her college story, A SLIGHTLY STRANGE NEIGHBOR. Her immensely popular series BANANA FISH, her longest work to date, ran from 1985 to 1994 and made her a superstar in the shojo manga world, injecting a new realism and narrative energy into the genre and attracting a large male crossover readership. Yoshida was honored twice with the top annual prize for excellence in shojo ...

Banana Fish, Volume 10 (Banana Fish (Graphic Novels))1 review

another great volume!!
I just love this series. It's a story a bit off the beaten path that mixes New York gangs, the NYPD, a main character with an IQ over 200 who is also the leader of a gang, the Italian mafia, the Vietnam war, sex and drug scandals, and a little bit of shonen ai for a story that keeps you guessing how they all finally tie together. It's fast-paced, funny, and intelligent and this volume is no ...

Banana Fish, Volume 6 (Banana Fish (Graphic Novels))1 review

Never back a Lynx into a corner.
Volume 6 of Banana Fish is full of suprises, the largest (to me) being that this is not the final volume of the Banana Fish series. (I thought it was, and was quite surprised when I encountered the dreaded "... to be continued ...") Of course, this means that there is more of Amiki Yoshida's wonderful story to come, but it still came as quite a surprise. The time has come for Ash to face his ...

5 Years and $250 Later
This series is one that gets better with age. The story telling, in the last three volumes especially, is superb. This final novel is a compilation of three stories. The first is the final chapter to the main story arch, and as the blurb says, it is in turns heart warming and achingly tragic. The second features one of my favorite characters Shorter Wong, and his first unfortunate meeting ...

Some of the most interesting and twisty shojo out there
Banana Fish got its start in the US in the now sadly defunct "Pulp" magazine from Viz. I was introduced to it there and was so taken that I followed it religiously for the past two years. Banana Fish has been developing in the most delightful ways. Ashe Lynx is a young man (17 y/o) with the good looks, deadly skills, and sophisticated brain to terrify anyone. He was a runaway who ran to the big ...

Banana Fish, Volume 7 (Banana Fish (Graphic Novels))1 review

VIZ Media LLC, 2005

One of the greatest mangas ever made!
By far, it's my favorite volume. There are more scenes with Ash and Eiji together, which is a plus. I absolutley loved this manga since the first time I bought it. It's a shoujo manga that appeals to both sexes because the plot and the artwork is more like a shonen manga. You won't be bothered by the really low shonen-ai content on the manga, so I say you should give it a chance. It contains lots ...
