If Johnny Cash wrote a children's book
I always love reading this book to my son. Both the subject matter and meter lend themselves to being read in the style of a country and western song. It makes the story a blast to read and to play with. The only trouble I have is that when we go back and read Dr. Seuss, I have a hard time readjusting to that rhythm and voice.

Don and Donna Go to Bat4 reviews

Random House Childrens Books, 1966

Don and Donna Go To Bat
I am 39 and this book is still firmly entrenched in my brain. It was the first book I ever wrote a book report on for class. The story is about twin brother and sister. The brother plays baseball and the sister feels left out. On the day of the big championship game the brother comes down sick with the flu. The sister is an identical twin when she puts her hair under her cap. Donna plays in ...

Tubby and the Lantern5 reviews
Al Perkins

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1971

A delightful children's book that you might not know about!
A baby elephant named Tubby lives with his friend, a little boy named Ah Mee in a village by the river. He gets into a great adventure when he decides to make a birthday present for Ah Mee... and the two embark on quite a journey! I especially like the pictures from this book... the lanterns are really very beautiful against the starry sky... and there is a lot of motion packed into the still ...

The Nose Book7 reviews
Al Perkins

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2003

The Nose Knows!!!
A fantastic little book to teach the young ones about the sizes, shapes, and every other item concerning noses. There are elephants and birds, and other kinds of animals, and some suggestions about how noses are used as well as what would happen if we didn't have any noses. Terrific guidance for the youngsters and oldsters alike. Beautiful poetry and colors, all primary ones. Catchy and ...

I love this book. I really enjoyed it as a young child. I love the two headed goat, the bridge of monkeys, and Dr. Dolittle's repoire with the animals.

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb (Bright & Early Board Books(TM))71 reviews
Al Perkins

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1998

Great book
This is the first book that my son ever smiled and laughed at. The sing song-y text is a hit with any age. I had the regular version of the book and now have the board book version so that my 15 month old can browse it by himself. He just loves the pictures and words to this book. I highly recommend it.

Attack Proof: The Ultimate Guide to Personal Protection45 reviews
John Perkins, Al Ridenhour, ...

Human Kinetics Publishers, 2000

If your'e not there, they can't attack you
Any reviewer can boast about this book, and many have. When I reviewed (actually, commented on) "Meditations on Violence," I highly recommended that the prospective buyer buy both "Meditations on Violence" AND "Attack Proof." To me, these books are literary siblings. In my humble opinion, self-defense starts and ends with these two superb works. As I mention in my other reviews, I don't see the ...

I really like it!
I like it because it is so funny. It had trains, planes and all those other loud things. I didn't believe my eyes! If you read it, you will think it's funny too I hope! My name is Cassie and I read this book.

Digging-Est Dog1 review
Al Perkins

RANDOM HOUSE, 1967

Wonderful & Funny
I stumbled upon this book while going to Graduate School. This book made me laugh! I enjoyed this book and will share it with a student I will be working with for a Literacy Project. I would say it is appropriate for the beginning reader (K-1st grade) and through 4th grade (although I'm no expert). There are themes of friendship, perserverence, and triumph for a pooch named Duke. I highly ...
