DSM-IV Purchase
Recently misplaced my DSM-IV quick-reference manual and needed one desperately for my work. Ordered from Amazon and had my replacement within a week. This little book is a must when you are working within a tight schedule so I really appreciate having Amazon and its sellers as a resource for replacing hard to find items such as the DSM-IV manual.

REIMBURSMENT, POLITICAL CURRENCY
Honolulu hit it on the head when suggesting this insurance manual has political overtones. I have been researching this document for three years now; and here is what I've found: the initial DSM listed homosexuality as a mental disorder. The DSM II did likewise - but was disclaimed after the second printing. The Veterans Administration are the primary research contributors. Though the VA is ...

Required and easy to fit in your Day Timer
I finally broke down and purchased this handy little reference book. I have the large hardcover DSMIV and finally had to stop hauling it between offices. This little gem fits in my Day Timer. It is always within reach. A must have if you have to diagnose for insurance, mental health agencies, or EAPS. No more wondering where the Big Book is (in my car, other office, or home). Once another ...

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV-TR
This book is one textbook that will stay with me throughout my coursework. It is very helpful in understanding mental issues and how to decide proper diagnosis. It is well written and easy to navigate. I definitely recommend also getting DSM made easy with this book as the case examples really are helpful.

The uses of this manual...
The DSM-IV (and DSM-IV-TR) is the primary manual used by clinicians to diagnose mental disorders. The cons are that 1) the manual categorizes mental disorders when it is entirely possible (perhaps even probable) that mental disorders lie on a continuum shared by normal behaviors, 2) political issues can and do influence which and how mental disorders are included in the manual, and 3) that ...

Great Tool
Let's face it, nobody likes doing APA, but if you have to do it, this is the best tool around. It is portable and easily searched and covers all situations, no matter how archiaic.

The authority on psychiatric diagnosis
While the dividing line between psychiatric disorders and normal behavior has grown less sharp during the last few years, I believe this is more due to advances in understanding of the human condition, than any sort of conspiracy. The first reviewer of this book obviously believes otherwise and would have all conform to his or her paranoid viewpoint. Truth be known, psychiatrists are probably ...

Authoritative summary of accepted diagnosis procedures
This review is based on the version of the book that is posted on APA's web site. The practice guidelines authorititatively summarize the accepted procedures for diagnosing people with emotional or mental symptoms. More emphasis should be placed on a thorough medical workup for all new patients. Although it may need to be performed by a physician other than the treating psychiatrist, it is ...
