Help a child learn to read
The Frog and Toad books have helped my 8 year old grandson learn to read--he has been having trouble and these books were so interesting and fun to him that he finally realized how reading could open up whole new worlds for him. He loves these books.

WELL THOUGHTOUT AND WELL ILLUSTRATED BOOK
This is one of those that is an absolute delight to read to and with kids. A mouse, minding his own business is caught by a weasel who of coure plans to whip up a batch of Mouse Soup. Our fast talking little mouse simply talks his way out of the dinner by telling the weasel four delightful stories, thereby distracting the weasle and at the same time, teaching the weasle a good lesson. The Random House Book of Poetry for Children19 reviews

Random House, 1983

A Perennial Gift
As a middle school reading teacher, I host an annual Poetry Reading Competition open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. For the past several years, this book has been a prize, in addition to plaques for the first and second prize winners. The best review for this book is that the children use it, read it, and often select poems from it for their entry pieces. Even better, perhaps, is that ...

Mouse Tales (I Can Read Book 2)22 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1978

Mouse Tales
There are seven short tales, all involving mice, and bookended by a father mouse who is telling these stories to his children at bed time, one per child. The seven stories included are: The Wishing Well, Clouds, Very Tall Mouse and Very Short Mouse, The Mouse and the Winds, The Journey, The Old Mouse, and The Bath. Of the seven, my favorite is The Wishing Well as it takes an unusual and humorous ...

Owl at Home (I Can Read Book 2)33 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1982

great memories
I originally purchased this book when my children were young, and it was nearly worn out from the numerous readings. My children loved the "bumps" and I always used the "tear water tea" to remind my kids when everything seemed to be going wrong in their world. It is a great little book for children...and some of us adults as well.

Miss Suzy102 reviews
Miriam Young

Purple House Press, 2004

Childhood favorite revisited
This is a book that my mother read to me as a child and, later, as I learned to read, would read to her. Now, 30 years later, I am reading this to my daughter and sharing one of my childhood favorites with her. Some of the ideas are a little dated, Miss Suzy is a stay-at-home squirrel who enjoys cooking and cleaning, but it also a tale of kindness and respect.

The Mouse Tales CD Audio Collection3 reviews

HarperChildrensAudio, 2004

The Mouse Tales CD Audio Collection
I purchased this set for my grand daughter (3 1/2 yrs old)as she loves to listen to books on tape etc. However, do not make the mistake that I did -- this is a CD only so you need to purchase the books separately. She loves the tales and follows along in the book - the author is the narrator and has a wonderfully expressive voice.

Frog and Toad All Year (I Can Read Book 2)21 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1984

Arnold Lobel's fourth charming collection of Frog and Toad stories
I was at a wedding where the minister was a very good friend of both the bride and the groom. When it came to the part of the service where the minister imparts words of wisdom, he started to read the Frog and Toad story of "The Surprise." It is all about how one October when the leaves had fallen from the trees Frog decides to go to Toad's house to surprise his friend by raking up all the ...

Frog and Toad Are Friends Book and CD (I Can Read Book 2)1 review

HarperFestival, 2005

Frog and Toad Are Friends Book and CD (I Can Read Book 2)
The Frog and Toad series was by far what I most liked to read to my daughter (now 26). She also had a audio tape in which the author read one of his stories. The voices he gave to Toad and Frog were exactly as I would have imagined them to sound like. I gave the Frog and Toad Are Friends Book, read by the author on a CD, to my 5-year-old great nephew and 6-year-old great niece, and they love ...

Ready...Set... Read! The Begining Reader's Treasury
I love this book! Both my kids (now 15 and 11) loved this book, so much so that we can't pass it on to my niece because it has such sentimental value. I guess I'm now saving it for grand kids (scary thought). Anyway, it truly is perfect for emerging readers with varying reading levels and most importantly varying subject matters. I'm ordering one now for my niece and I know she will treasure her ...

Grasshopper on the Road (I Can Read Book 2)11 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1986

real life lessons
I always enjoyed this book as a child. I recently pulled it out of some of my things and read it. Reading it as an adult I realize its true meaning and value. It offers real lessons on life, the people you meet along the way and how to gracefully just keep on walking down the road...

Fables12 reviews

WELL WRITTEN LITTLE COLLECTION - WONDERFUL ILLUSTRATIONS
This is a collection of twenty short, simply written fables. Each is crafted to make a moral point, The author is droll and funny. Children can read this one or have it read to them and actually get the point. The adult reading the book can enjoy the tongue-in-cheek humor. Both adult and child can enjoy the wonderful illustrations. Now you might take note here. I suspect that those adults ...
