Captivating tale of adventure.
I have read pieces of information about the legendary early expeditions of Mt. Everest and therefor really wanted to read this book. From the start to finish I found this book to be well researched and written. I very much enjoyed the photographs. Now I am curious about the other books written about George Mallory. This book made the men of the expedition come alive.

story of the first solo accent of Mnt. Everest
I could not say anything less then that Reinhold Messner's "The Crystal Horizon" is a great book. It is not a usual climber's book, but rather a strange mix of history, politics, religion, geography, meteorology, personal history and world views of the man who is beyond doubt the greatest living mountaineer. The book deals with the first solo accent of Mnt. Everest, accomplished during the ...

Coffee Table Book for Climbers
My title not withstanding, this is a wonderful "picture" book of 52 of the world's climbing peaks. Each climb is accompanied by history, routes, seasonality information and brief gear requirments. Additionally, each individual route is graded with one of the prevailing rating systems and various sundry information about approaches, access, etc. What this book is not, is a technique manual, a ...

Buy the coffee table size hardcover, not the paperback!
It's got such fantastic photography, the hardcover is well worth the investment.

AN INCREDIBLE STORY OF OBSESSION AND SURVIVAL, BUY IT!!.
Kurt Diemburger's, Endless Knot must be one of the greatest mountaineering books of the modern age, and sits easily with the likes of Hienrich Harrier's White spider and Joe Simpson's Touching the Void. Diemburger is the only living mountaineer to have made first ascent of two of the eight thousand metre peaks, along with ascents of most of the remaining peaks. The Endless Knot tells of the ...
A Portrait Of Leni Riefenstahl
Audrey Salkeld
Ramboro Books PLC
, 1997
Leni Riefenstahl, who died in 2003, will always be remembered for her film of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. After the war, Riefenstahl was shunned by the film industry both in Europe and America, despite a 1952 court ruling proclaiming her not guilty of supporting the Nazis in a punishable way. Winner of the Boardman Tasker Award, this is a fine and balanced study of a still-controversial figure.

This book has something for everyone
Entertaining and informative book. The authors command over the language is impressive. I am visiting Kilimanjaro soon and I found the book gives a good insight into what the trip will be like. The book is full of historic information, both natural and human. Vivid photos, as expected of a National Geographic book, though I would prefer less glossy and minute details - if too much of a natural ...

Wonderful photography
This will be an absorbing read if, like me, Jon Krauker's "Into Thin Air" awakened the nascent armchair mountaineer in you. Interleaving some great photography with brief accounts of various climbs, and summaries of the main routes on mountains across the world, it's well worth a look even if (perhaps, especially if!) the thought of actually climbing a major peak isn't your idea of a fun way ...

Terrific reading for fifth and sixth graders
This National Geographic photobiography of George Mallory's life and the mystery surrounding his death on Mount Everest conveys the sense of adventure explorers like him had in the early part of the 20th century. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be inspired to pursue his or her own adventures.

Straightforward Read for Young People
I ordered this book not noticing it really is for young readers, but it was probably the most straightforward reading I've done in a while. Ms. Salkeld clearly knows her stuff and I actually learned some information not previously read elsewhere. I recommend this book for any school library.
