Highly detailed classic for serious practioners
I teach meditation and I am educated in biology, biochemistry and psychology. I am also a student of world religions and a yoga practioner. During my graduate school years, I was also a Teaching Fellow in Physiology and I teach workshops on pranayama and biofeedback. Therefore, I think my opinion has some weight in this arena although I realize there are more serious yoga practioners who have ...

Yoga For The Heart
This book has been a gift to society. BKS Iyengar discloses his being and we get a glimpse of what yoga can be like for a master and that we too can attain bliss yoga as well. I am a yoga teacher and this book is great for teachers as well because you can share with your students selected readings before their practice to encourage them to take their practice to another level. I own the ...

Great Resource for Teachers and Students Alike
I notice that a few reviewers have mentioned they found exercises in the book too easy and it's true that the book is geared toward those who may be recovering from injury and/or are new to yoga. That said, as a yoga instructor and long-time practitioner I've found this book to be a wonderful resource. In fact, some of the poses in the book have become staples in my lesson plans (and in my own ...

inspiring book
This is a good book to read if you are a serious yoga practitioner or teacher, since it reviews in a simplified way the Yogasutras of Patanjali and Iyengar's point of view on life and life experiences. It has nothing to do with religion, it is just a different take on life that might prove useful and enlightening.

amazing,magical
The Yoga in this book is not accessible to all,but just looking at the pictures and reading the text is enough to transport you to a whole new realm, a peaceful, calming, happy place where pregnancy and birth are no longer a burden or a physical challenge, but a beautiful natural state to be celebrated and embrassed, that you can tame and enjoy. Leboyer was not only the leading ob-gyn when it ...

If you have one comprehensive book on yoga this should be it.
This book generally shows the progression of the poses from beginner to advanced. You will not be talked down to in this book. I like having more information then I need so that I can reference back and progress when I'm ready.

A must read on yoga principles
While being an avid yoga practicioner, the first time I got to know anything about B.K.S. Iyengar was when I picked up this book. Since then, I have done much more reading by him. Tree of Yoga was wonderful in explaining some basic principles of yoga, and the concepts behind it. The book didn't go into explaining or documenting the various asanas (for that read Light on Yoga), but instead ...

Hatha Yoga: The Hidden Language
Sometimes my body feels like it's speaking in tongues. That tight shoulder, the pain in my lower back - what does it mean? What is my body trying to tell me? Originally published in 1988, Hatha Yoga: The Hidden Language details Swami Radha's systematic approach to understanding the symbolism of the asanas and messages from the body. I first encountered Hidden Language a couple of years ago ...

even if you have never been to a yoga class ...
... this book will still be of great interest and value to you if you are spiritually inclined. the top reviewers assertion that the yoga sutras represents the theory behind the practice of hatha yoga is not really correct. hatha yoga (which is what 'yoga' normally stands for in the west) is actually only a minor part of the yoga sutras - i think it occurs in no more than a single verse in ...
