Not for a true novice
I bought this book thinking I could learn SQL as a true novice. This book is not intended for a real beginner, but for developers/programmers that probably already know at least one language. For a real beginner's book see Forta's MYSQL Crash Course or Teach Yourself SQL. This book, Learning SQL, would probably be your next book.

Very good book -- worth the money
As a value for the dollar, I give it 5 stars. I think it is most useful to people who have some SQL experience with Oracle and want to take their skills to the next level. I agree with some of the other reviewers that "Mastering" is a bit of a marketing stretch, particularly since there is limited coverage of Oracle optimizer issues.
