Last Stand: America's Virgin Lands3 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

National Geographic, 2002

Brilliant, brilliant, the only word BRILLIANT
I have had the pleasure of reading every Barbara Kingsolver book printed. I have shared them all with the one's I love. This book, Last Stand, is the last one of Kinsolver's works that I purchased. It is the most magnificent coffee table style book I have ever seen. I loved the photos, the artwork, the amazingness of the American wilderness and the commentary attached to each section. I am ...

Small Wonder1 review
Barbara Kingsolver, Kingsolver Barbara, 2002

Small Wonder cassette tapes
These are very inspiring essays by one of our most brilliant writers. If you have enjoyed her fiction, you will really like her voice (literally, as she reads her essays aloud)as an observer of our human condition on this planet. There is a particularly great take on the 911 catastrophe.

I've Always Meant to Tell You : Letters to Our Mothers : An Anthology of Contemporary Women Writers1 review
Constance Warloe, Hilma Wolitzer, ..., 1997

A Gift Of Love
I received a copy of this book from my daughter who was about to celebrate her 33rd birthday. The Amazon gift wrap was lovely. And she wrote and told me this was a gift for giving life to her and more. And I began to read the essays and the letters and the poems. And although each author had a different mother, there seemed to be a universal theme....love. And in some cases, lack of love. ...

Another America / Otra América9 reviews

Seal Press, 1998

Oh my God, what a book
I am still in awe over this fabulous collection of poetry. Never have I read poetry with such passion, craft, and art. Barbara Kingsolver has truly touched my heart with her chosen words. What I would kill to have her gift. These peoms dig deep into the heart of political struggles and triumphs of central america. And as it is said, "the political is the personal." You will read these ...

Barbara Kingsolver

HARPER COLLINS PUBLISHERS, 2007

Localvore Experiences
This book traces a year in the life of Kingsolver's family as they adopt and adjust to a diet based on locally produced foods. At the beginning of this narrative, Kingsolver and her family move from Arizona to Virginia, where they have family ties, and where subsisting on local foods will be much easier because of the more ameniable climate. Arriving after gardening season is over, they bide ...

THE BEAN TREES1 review
Barbara Kingsolver

Harper Collins, 1988

One of the best books I've ever read...
After successfully graduating high school without succumbing to pregnancy like most of her classmates, the last thing Taylor Greer wants is to raise a child. But, thanks to a chance encounter, she suddenly finds herself the foster mother of a Cherokee toddler named Turtle. Despite Taylor's initial reluctance, her heart softens when she finds out how horribly Turtle was abused as a baby. ...

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle CD: A Year of Food Life299 reviews

HarperAudio, 2007

Inspiring!
I found this story fascinating and inspiring! I originally listened to this book as a download but had to buy a hard copy to loan out because I keep recommending it. If you are interested in learning more about the local food movement, sustainable farming/gardening, seasonal eating, etc... this book is for you. I have always been a city girl but six months after I read this book I was blessed ...

High Tide in Tucson43 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2007

Art to Move Mountains (or Hermit Crab Shells)
Kingsolver holds reign neck and neck with Annie Dillard as two of my favorite naturalist writers and essayists. Kingsolver holds her own as a novelist. In this collection of essays, rewritten and expanded versions, in many cases, from what has been previously published in various magazines, Kingsolver's skill and talent as an essayist shimmers with brilliance and sheer entertainment. Even when ...

The Complete Fiction: The Bean Trees, Homeland, Animal Dreams, Pigs in Heaven12 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver, 1995

An insightful book that will make you view life differently.
Barbara Kingsolver has become one of my all time favorite authors after I accidently happened upon High Tide in Tucson. Since that time, I have purchased and read everything she has published. This collection of books resides on the ledge of my bathtub to be enjoyed when I need to escape. Someday, I hope to have a book signed by Ms. Kingsolver. She has forever changed how I view the world.

Prodigal Summer442 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

HarperCollins, 2000

spring is the right time to read this book
I just finished this book, and I learned so much. I am in the process of planting my garden, and will definitely do things differently because I read this book. It is a wonderful fictional read that sneaks in several valuable lessons about ecology and nature. I loved the characters and I wish they were my friends.

Prodigal Summer3 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

Faber & Faber Ltd, 2002

Perfect Read for a Weekend
By page 11 I was completely absorbed into the world of Zebulon Valley. Twelve Hours later I had finished the book! It reminds me a few books I read in the summer of 1996: The Joshua Tree by Robert Cabot and One Summer by James R. Osgood. If you enjoy Prodigal Summer I recommend these other books.

Poisonwood Bible, The1411 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

Unabridged Library Edition, 1998

Merits multiple readings
The editorial reviews and the other 1409 reader reviews provide as much commentary on this remarkable book as one might want. Needless to say, I enjoyed the story. It operates at several levels just like life. You might dislike some characters but they all seem real to me, sharply etched. You might not like what they say, it can be provocative, thought provoking. You might even imagine the ...

Small Wonder80 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2007

A thought-provoking book......a place for reflection and solace.
I agree with the reviewer who cautioned to take this book in small doses. I was moved to tears by the second page, and realized I needed to pace myself. On that second page, Kingsolver was describing the story of a lost child in Iraq (who was found)....her point of view was from the parents of this child, and the heart-wrenching terror they must have felt as the babysitter came running towards ...

Homeland and Other Stories15 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

Harpercollins, 1989

I wish each story was its own novel.
A lovely collection of stories, as is to be expected of Barbara Kingsolver's fiction. The characters are rich and dynamic, and the stories are so well developed that I wish each one was a full-length novel. Well worth the read-

Animal Dreams155 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

Buccaneer Books, 1997

Poetic
I am not a fan of poetry, but I enjoy the poetic way Barbara Kinsolver writes about nature, life, relationships and family. This is a thought provoking novel, touching and real.
