Beautiful
I read this book a while back when my husband, a horse lover, introduced me to it. A great tale of the life of a horse that teaches values to anyone who reads it. I have learned much about these beautiful animals and can see why my husband loves them. Strongly recommended for your children, you and they will love it. Anna del C. I've been searching for books to encourage my daughter to read. She's a big animal lover, so I thought that she would certainly be interested in a book with a hamster on the cover! BINGO!! Now she wants all of the Humphrey books . . . that's why I'm here - to order the rest of them! Humphrey is too precious to pass up. I highly recommend him!

Samurai Shortstop10 reviews
Alan Gratz, Betty G. Birney

Listening Library, 2006

Burning Besuboru!!
Samurai Shortstop is about a 16-year old Japanese boy, Toyo. Right from the first sentence of the book it really grabs your attention. Toyo's uncle is preparing to commit sepukku. This is considered an honorable way to kill yourself in Japan. The story draws you into the life of Toyo and helps you to understand his relationship with his father and learning the art of bushido. He goes off to a ...

Surprises According to Humphrey3 reviews

Putnam Juvenile, 2008

Excellent series
These books are just wonderful. A must have for any child that has, or wishes for a hamster... or any animal lover for that matter. A teacher let my son borrow the first in this series and that was it. We have them all. They are so cleverly written and subtly expand on a variety of situations and emotions that kids experience each day. Thanks Betty G. Birney! We love your writing style.

Stop and smell the roses...
Sometimes we get so caught up in doing things and going places, we forget about the things around us that are so important and beautiful! We forget to smell the roses. This book is so easy to read and you want to read it. I was intrigued by trying to figure out what he might find next. I loved this book!

Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty (Little Nugget Book)4 reviews

Sleeping Beauty is a Beauty
This book is a real treasure. Based on Walt Disney's widescreen animated fairytale epic "Sleeping Beauty," this is a nostalgic exact reprint of the storybook created for the film in 1959. It is illustrated with original artwork created especially for storybooks. It is a shame that more people have not discovered this wonderful book. It's one of those books that you can read to your children ...
