If you ever want or have to build your own PHP extension, there's only one serious recommendation: read this book! It's well written, the examples are easy to use and it's just fun working with it. Good way to get up to speed quickly with PEAR::DB
If you need to get going with PEAR::DB quickly this is a great way to do it. It's a short book, but gets right to the point. You are expected to know PHP and how to program. Definately one of the better PHP books I own
I've been coding PHP for a few years now, and I find this book to be a very good reference to keep at the desk. It covers a broad range of topics, so if I need to brush up on something or need quick info on something, I turn to this book first. Recommended.
