Photoshop Illuminated: For Animators2 reviews
Jaimy McCann, Brian Demong, ...

Mesmer Press, 2003

strong manual
This book demonstrates some excellent techniques and methods for texturing work. It is one of only 3 or 4 I know of on the market concerning this type of work. It is written for a beginner in many ways, but there is also alot of advanced techniques that are very valuable to someone with some texturing experience. The way I see it, any book that makes you stronger at texturing than you were ...

The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality3 reviews
Brian Greene

Alfred Knopf, 2004

Fascinating vision of the Universe
This thought-provoking book has a wider perspective than Greene's Elegant Universe, in which he expounded on String Theory. Fabric Of The Cosmos discusses the latest findings in theoretical physics in a style accessible to the ordinary reader. The book contains a short summary of string theory. In brief, this theory proposes that particles like quarks, electrons et al. are not dots but minute ...

Psycho Buildings: Artists Take On Architecture
Brian Dillon, Jane Rendell, ...

Hayward Publishing, 2008

Psycho Buildings: Artists and Architecture marks the fortieth anniversary of London's Hayward gallery--itself an architectural icon, and one of the few remaining examples of the 1960s Brutalist style. The exhibition brings together the work of artists--including Atelier Bow-Wow, Michael Beutler, Los Carpinteros, Gelitin, Mike Nelson, Ernesto Neto, Tobias Putrih, Tomas Saraceno, Do-Ho Suh and Rachel Whiteread--who create habitat-like structures ...

The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality204 reviews
Brian Greene

Vintage, 2005

Get this one if you have not read The Elegant Universe...
The negative reviews say that there's not much that's new in this book (over and above what was in The Elegant Universe.) As I have not read The Elegant Universe, I find this book most wonderful: in the first 100 pages alone, you learn all you wanted to know about relativity and quantum theories, written lucidly.

The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2006 (The Best American Series)5 reviews

Houghton Mifflin, 2006

Excellent Journalism for Critical Thinkers From Any Field
Every year I eagerly anticipate the publication of another edition of this fine series - and its competitor, the "Best of American Science Writing." Series Editor Tim Folger painstakingly selected 100 articles from American periodicals early this year, all of which attest to the intrigue of science. Sometimes the scientific method is seen to be, as he puts it, "an intensely human endeavor, ...

The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory501 reviews
Brian Greene

Vintage, 2000

Elegant Theory for an Inelegant Universe
Brian Greene provides an excellent introduction to the topic of superstring theory, its history and evolution; its current status, achievements and obstacles; and its areas of focus for future study. The book is written for the layman, in a style that is honest, clear and concise, using numerous real-world examples to explain the basic theories, and excludes mathematical explanations as much as ...

Icarus at the Edge of Time
Brian Greene

Knopf, 2008

Product Description From one of America's leading physicists--a moving and visually stunning futuristic reimagining of the Icarus fable. Icarus was born on the ship as was his father and his father's father, but there will be two more generations before the Proxima reaches its destination. The Meaning of Relativity, Fifth Edition: Including the Relativistic Theory of the Non-Symmetric Field ...8 reviews
Albert Einstein

Princeton University Press, 2004

Will never collect dust....
There are numerous books on general relativity currently on the market, and these range in difficulty from those written for the beginner or the layman, those written for graduate students in physics, and research monographs covering specialized topics. It is always refreshing to go back to the originator of the subject, and take part in his special insights on the topic. Philosophers and ...

Slave Badges and the Slave-Hire System in Charleston, South Carolina 1783-18652 reviews
Harlan Greene, Harry S., Jr. Hutchins, ...

McFarland & Company, 2008

all you ever wanted to know about slave badges
this is the ultimate scholarly work on slave badges, a unique product of our slaveholding past. The book is thorough and easy to read. In it, you will find everything you could possibly want to know about badges and their uses. I recommend it for Civil War buffs who want to add some marginalia to their discussions and to historical writers who want to add detail to their work. Anyone visiting ...

Determining Damages: The Psychology of Jury Awards (Law and Public Policy: Psychology and the Social Sciences)1 review
Edie Greene, Brian H. Bornstein

American Psychological Association (APA), 2002

Well written, well researched book
I am a structured settlement consultant who has worked in thousands of injury cases over 20 years. Although I have not participated in many jury trials, I know the way that jury verdicts effect settlements and the entire litigation system. This is an even handed, well researched view of how damages are determined. I am buying several copies to send to friends who are trial lawyers. A better ...
