Omnibus in color (Essential in black and white)
I purchased the Essential Howard the Duck and was bummed that the book ended before the story played out, and the art was black and white. So I ordered Howard The Duck Omnibus and got the whole story in color. If you want to read Howard The Duck, get the Omnibus.

This book is a must have for ScreenOS users.
Simply put, anyone who is currently evaluating or managing ScreenOS based Firewalls should own this book and have it close by. The 1st chapter of the book alone shows the most useful commands that every administrator needs to know. It also details the architecture of ScreenOS which is the key to creating and implementing a relevant security policy in any network. The book is well written ...

An enjoyable (and educational) read
I grabbed this book because the title seemed interesting and, hey, the cover is bright orange! My background is mostly technical; the business side of business has never interested me at all. Never in a million years would I see myself picking up a 'business self-help' or industrial design book, but I figured I would step outside my comfort zone and give it a try. I am glad that I did. ...

Our new favorite PC book
My entire gaming group reached a consensus: this book is our new favorite book for core classes in DnD 3.5. First off, a cautionary note: DM's WILL want to read this before letting their player with all the disposable income roll up a character from this book, as its systems are complicated and the character abilities have been created almost whole-cloth. In general, we've found the classes ...

A Rare Success!
I have come accross many cat books, dog books, and dog or cat books that are written in a funny style. This is one of those rare books that actually manages to succeed in everything it aspires to! Not only is this book recent (2004), inexpensive, and hillariously written and illustrated, but it has all of the basic information a cat owner would need in an extremely USEFUL format. Man, how I ...

The Top 5 of the Scariest Books I Have Ever Read
I agree with what others have said about this book. It is written in a very jerky, unusual style, and can be a bit hard to follow at times. But given that it was written so long ago, it is frighteningly, eerily relevant. I read the book in 2 days (which was a feat considering how it is written). It has stayed with me for weeks. Current news reports are ones that appear in the book, and ...

One of the better D&D game supplements presented this decade.
When it comes to supplement books to the Dungeon & Dragons game, players and Dungeon Masters alike must learn to pick and choose their battles. I say this because while many D&D books can prove to be quite viable in introducing new material into the game (e.g., new spells, character feats and options, monsters, and adventures), others can be a tad redundant and perhaps even useless to a given ...

There'll Never Be Another Like Him
This book, third in a set of five from Citadel Press (who are doing similar definitive collections of Robert Bloch & Theodore Sturgeon), collects all of Dick's short stories, the vast majority of them from the 50s - not coincidentally, the high-water mark of the sf pulps. All are introduced by later-era sf writers like Tom Disch, Norman Spinrad & this volume's John Brunner; unfortunately, all ...

Love It!! Great Gift IDEA!!!
I loved it as soon as I pulled out of the box and touched the shiny new cover. Opening it up was like entering a whole new world. The items are fresh and exiting. Easy to read and a joy to locate a new item that lays in wait for the unsuspecting adventuring party. The only thing I have to say that is negative is: it would be nice to have pictures of every item. But how realistic is ...

Fun, futuristic speculation from the late 1960's
This big, sprawling novel is essentially a sci-fi spy thriller, but the real star of the show is the whacky world of the future in which the whole story takes place. Written in the late `60's, Brunner employs lots of technical fireworks to bring that future world to life. Many readers will find this annoying and almost incomprehensible at first, but after a hundred pages or so, the main plot ...

Little is to be added to the other reviews. This 28-year old book not only decribed the internet as it will become very soon long before its inception, but computer viruses (called "worms" by Brunner) before the first PC too, plus a few other things and issues not even mentioned yet. Since a friend gave it to me to read many years ago, I've bought every copy of it I could find. I have kept one ...

Very Interesting Book on Bears and People
As the owner of a vast bear library, I always welcome the rare bear book that documents the historical relationship between people and bears. Along with very interesting text, this book is full of photos and illustrations that help paint the picture of our past relationship with this fascinating and wonderful animal. Mr. Brunner did his homework with this book and therefore warrants a spot on the ...

Now in its revised fifth edition, this book is designed for the collector, with an historical survey, a description of how mechanical wristwatches work, and a glossary. Information on the preservation, care, and repair of watches rounds out the volume, making it an excellent ...

One of the best in an all-too-shallow genre
There are not a lot of watch collecting/information books on the market, and of those few, only a handful really stand out. This is one of those few. Covers quite a lot, has some in depth information for beginners, and is still a great reference for the experienced.

not a bad distraction
First of all, let's set the terms of this review. I was aware that this was b/w prior to ordering it and I was okay with that. Also, I had never read even a single issue of Doctor Strange, so I really have no frame of reference with regard to the comic's legacy. At age 30 it has probably been nearly 2 decades since I've read comics at all (although I was a passionate Marvel fan back in the day). ...

Great additional sourcebook, full of good ideas
Well, another Eberron book, and another winner. The artwork in this book is awesome, the cover art, the chapter beginning and pictures throughout are all of consistent high quality. The content seems to be well laid out, however the lack of index in reference books is becoming frustrating. The book contains the following Chapters (you will need the TOC as there is no index...) ...
