Impressive Ideas
Camille's ideas are very original. The book combines philosphy, psichology, mithology, art, literature and antrophology to understand the basis of our society, specially the diferences between genders. The first two chapters are spectacular. After that, the book becomes too specific, but still worth reading.

In a Class by Herself
To read this book is an intellectual adventure. Miss Paglia stands alone, apart from her time, as Pound or Carlyle or Johnson did. Whether one agrees with everything she says is beside the point. First, she is a model of an independent-thinker who refuses to utter a cliche or pander to popular prejudice. Second, she stirs the reader to think for himself and to think clearly. Socrates says of ...

a logical Next Step after Poetry for Dummies - and I mean that quite favorably!
My experience with poetry is probably quite common. I suffered through a few lessons in high school (Browning, Yeats, Shakespeare, Chaucer) and didn't give verse another thought for 20 years. I tried to add poetry back into my Reading Life because I would like to be able to enjoy language as an art, like a painting or music, and I am now mature enough to understand that language art is what ...

Hot Fotos
I loved this book--heard about it from artist friends in NYC. It's got terrific visuals--the stuff the author found is really unique and HOT. Really enjoyed the writing too--a lot of fun. Not all that boring theory you get from the campus types. This is a great gift book--I already got it for my cousin's birthday in Mexico. Plus it has nifty design so is like a coffee table book you can ...

Food for thought...debate...and brawl
One of the most controversial figures in contemporary society is explosive critic, art historian, pop philosopher, and author Camille Paglia. Her newest collection of essays, VAMPS AND TRAMPS, includes sharpened swords drawn and abruptly driven into the current direction of gay activism, feminist thought, and academia. Her criticism is fierce, at once educated and adolescent, she is a rebel ...

Arrows Of The Wise
Those who would like to learn to write well could hardly do better than study Camille Paglia's The Birds (1998), the author's exhilarating monograph on Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 horror masterpiece. The British Film Institute (BFI), which sponsored the book in its BFI Film Classics series, has made some highly questionable choices in its "modern" selection of "the 360 key films in the history of ...

Tuoko Laaksonen honored in the realm of fine art - Finally!
Tuoko Laaksonen (1920 - 1991) may have enjoyed worldwide fame as Tom of Finland during his lifetime, his fame due largely to an extensive following of those who praised his courage to paint and draw what he wanted to paint and draw rather than keeping his talent for figurative work in the dark corners of only certain bookstores. Now, thanks in large part to this very fine tome edited by Dian ...
