THE SHADOW OF THE WIND
THIS WORK OF FICTION WAS CAPTIVATING. IT WILL KEEP YOUR INTEREST FROM THE VERY BEGINNING AND YOU WILL NOT WANT IT TO END. THE AUDIO VERSION WAS NICELY DONE. I ALWAYS ENJOY WHEN THE CHARACTERS COME ALIVE THROUGH THE NARRATOR. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

simply the best
A must read... what a book! one of the best i read so far. I think the translator did a fantastic job. I devoured this book, could not put it down. stoped a couple of times to re read some paragraphs, to linger and enjoy the art of writing... HIGHLY recommended

Please note...
I have not read this book. I ordered it thinking it was the follow-up to The Shadow of the Wind. El Palacio... is an adolescent book as is El Principe de la Niebla, Marina, and Las Luces del Septiembre. So those of you breathlessly awaiting the follow-up to "Shadow", as I am, take note.

Vale la pena!
I found this novel enthralling enough to struggle with the Spanish. The author is a prize winning 42 year-old from Barcelona. The story opens in Paris in the 1930s. M. Sauvelle suddenly dies leaving his wife Mme Sauvelle and their two children Irene, a young teen, and Dorian, a pre-teen, with a mountain of debt. A mysterious stranger, Lazarus Jann becomes their salvation when he offers Mme ...

A great read
Like a number of other reviewers I read El Principe de la Niebla after La Sombra del Viento, but I for one wasn't disappointed. Yes it is a book for teenagers, but don't let that put you off as it is in fact beautifully written and in no way patronises its readers. I especially admire Zafón's linguistic craftmanship and in particular the humorous exchanges between the characters, which provide ...

Very good but not the Shadow
The book is very good, even if not nearly as great as the shadow. I feel the author wanted to make the book longer, but he was probably stopped by the editors. If you liked the shadow you should definitely read it, even if the tone of the book seems more sad I suppose. You will see some characters from the shadow that will make the book more fun, so don't read it unless you have read the shadow ...

From Publishers Weekly A Barcelona-born novelist based in Los Angeles, Ruiz Zafon was a finalist for the Spanish Fernando Lara de Novela award with this fifth novel. When Daniel visits a mysterious and secret Library of Forgotten Books in 1940s Barcelona and finds Carax's novel The Shadow of the ...

Carlos BRAVO!!!!!!

Reine Spannung!
This book, although it starts pretty slowly with a symbollic rather than believeable setting (a huge secret library in a land where there are no secrets), is written as a mystery with very good character development. One comes to know the main characters pretty well. The setting is Franco Spain, and the main effect conveyed repeatedly is the absolute horror of living in a fascist regime where the ...
