Carol Berkin never disappoints!
Carol Berkin's relates the historical narrative of women in a manner that would appeal to a broad audience. History fans would enjoy her latest book as she gives insight to three different women with very different paradigms. Readers will enjoy Berkin's latest effort to shed more light on women in American history.

Just what I was looking for, as it turned out
This is a great book. For some unexplained reason I was not expecting it to be, but am so glad that I picked it up. This year I have done little besides read a brain-splitting amount of history pertaining to our Founding, from classic biographies of the major players to the Federalist Papers. One thing I could not seem to find, however, was an accurate & enlightening, but at the same time ...

Excellent Women's History
So many history books are dry and difficult to read. This was the exact opposite. Carol Berkin breathes life into the dim periods of early Colonial American history. Although she often has little more details than land records, birth, marriage, and death dates (and in some cases, not even that) Berkin is able to paint a vivid picture of what it might have been like for the strong women who, ...

Needed for class
It was needed for class, otherwise probably would never have bought it. There are some very interesting stories but for the most part a lot of the essays tend to be very repetitive and long winded.

Great even for those who dislike history
We all know how horrible textbooks can be, but this one surpasses them all with flying colors (as does Volume A). History can be a bit dull at time, but this book is easy to read and comprehend, and also has some follow up reading suggestions if you are interested in a certain subject. I love this book so much I have reread it after the class was over-it's a great addition for any student taking ...

Every woman should read this
Carol Berkin has written a book so interesting that I can cite the women's names and tell their stories to my friends. An outstanding author who has the ability to bring real women of the past into the present by describing the lives and the actions of these women. I've since ordered Berkin's other books. I've recommended this book to all my friends. The creativity and persistence of women to ...
