Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog38 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1985

train don't complain
I have been a dog trainer for many years. This is one of two books that I suggest to my clients. So much common sense with a dash of humor. Easy to read and implement to your training program. Great book.

Carol Lea Benjamin

Skyhorse Publishing, 2008

heartwarming
What a terrific surprise!!! Proof that a few words can mean so much and change the whole flavor of the day. I loved it and I know that if I was lucky enough to meet Carol Lea Benjamin, I would love her, too! Thank you!

Dog Training in 10 Minutes (Howell reference books)7 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1997

Fun book
If you can only buy one book on dog training, buy this one. It's easy to read and fun to read. After you read this book perhaps you'll also want to read her other book "Monther Knows Best," which is also fun and informative.

Fall Guy: A Rachel Alexander Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)10 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Avon, 2005

Thoroughly enjoying
I have read most of Ms. Benjamin books and I have to say this was one of the best. It was not the normal who-done-it. Bringing all the pieces of the puzzle together at the end in an unexpected twist. I had not drawn the same conclusion until the last moment and then it made perfect sense. Being a dog lover myself, I always enjoy the unique manner that "Dash" is worked into the storyline.

Without a Word: A Rachel Alexander Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)10 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Avon, 2006

A Mystery with Literary Merit
"Without a Word" is more than just a page-turner (although turn the pages you will). Benjamin was created indelible characters, places that are real and vivid, a mood that's equal parts brooding, disturbing and exciting. If you're often let down by the abrupt, unbelievable conclusions of most mysteries, read this book. The ending lingers long after you've finished.

The Hard Way: A Rachel Alexander Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)9 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Avon, 2007

Just keep getting better
This is, to me, the best to date, even though I fell in love with Dash and his partner in book One. Her social commentary is right on, and the description of "Eunice's" daily treks were so engrossing I thought I was back in NYC. Time just flew, and there I was feeling seeing and grateful, that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, health insurance!!! and my family. Ms. Benjamin's stories ...

Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence: A Positive Training Program (Howell reference books)14 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1993

This book was a life-saver
12 years ago, I remember sitting on my bed in tears. My adorable Golden Retriever puppy had hit a point where she was really hard to handle, and I felt overwhelmed-- like a failure as a dog owner! I knew I needed some good advice, and I ended up finding this book at the library. It was incredibly helpful, reassuring, and positive. Needless to say, my Golden eventually grew into a lovely, ...

Second-Hand Dog: How to Turn Yours into a First-Rate Pet (Howell reference books)19 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1988

Second Hand Dog
I read this book before adopting my first Weimaraner; 4 years later I volunteer as a foster for Weimaraner Rescue and I've re-read it several times. After reading many other training books over the years, I've found Carol Lea Benjamin's dog-training books to be the best in their class. Our rescue gives Second Hand Dog to each new adopter. I also highly recommend Dog Training in 10 Minutes. ...

Dog Tricks: Eighty-Eight Challenging Activities for Your Dog from World-Class Trainers13 reviews
Captain Arthur J. Haggerty, Carol Lea Benjamin

Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 1996

This book is a blast!
If you have a smart dog (like my Bo Diddley-LOL!) you will love teaching the tricks described in this book to the delight of your friends and family!! What a fun book!!

This Dog for Hire (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)17 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Dell, 1997

Love Dogs? A Superb Mystery? Fine Writing?
If you love dogs, a superb mystery, and fine writing, this book was written for you...... The hero, clearly, is pit bull Dash; and Ms. Benjamin presents him as a totally believable participant in his "partner's" investigation into murder. Interspersed throughout the book are some clues into what makes Dash's human counterpart, Rachel Alexander, tick....almost a mystery within a mystery....and ...

Lady Vanishes: A Rachel Alexander Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)3 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Avon, 2005

always excellent
The woman has never written anything that disappoints. She is a very talented and deep writer, and does not really fit the cozy genre.

The Wrong Dog: A Rachel Alexander Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)2 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Avon, 2005

Dog Books
I love mysteries, and if you do, and if you love dogs, you'll enjoy these books by Carol Lea Benjamin. This series is not as much "fun" as Susan Conants, nor Laurien Berensons dog/mystery series, but the mystery is a bit more intense. There also is not as much "dog" information in this series, either, in my opinion, compared to the other two series. All in all, though, a good read!

A Hell of a Dog (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)2 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Dell, 1999

My favorite book in the series
I loved this book & read it straight through. At a dog training symposium, the dog trainers are dropping like flies. Rachel & Dash work undercover in this whodunit. With lots of twists & turns, the story kept me guessing right up until the very end. Woven into the story is info about various training methods, plus entertaining grumblings from the various trainers. Having spent a good deal of ...

The Chosen Puppy: How to Select and Raise a Great Puppy from an Animal Shelter6 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1990

valuable information for first time puppy owners
I adopted a 8-week-old puppy from Humane Society and being a first time dog owner, this book is very helpful with my raising my puppy. In a month, she will be 4 years old and as a puppy, she was a GREAT puppy and today, as a dog, she is a GREAT dog! The other people have commented to me how well-behaved my dog was when she was puppy. Today, people still tell me how smart and well behaved my ...

The Wrong Dog: A Rachel Alexander and Dash Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)3 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Walker & Company, 2000

Excellent work
Sophie Gordon arranged to meet private investigator Rachel Alexander at the Washington Square Park dog run. There, Sophie explains why she needs a sleuth. The School of the Deaf teacher uses a service dog to help her by alerting her when she is going into a seizure. This allows Sophie the time to insure her safety. Her canine Blanche died, but before she did, the Side by Side agency cloned the ...

Dog Problems (Howell reference books)10 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Howell Book House, 1989

This is an excellent book
This is an excellent book for people who have mild or moderate dog problems. It is well written with a sense of humor, and with insight into the behavior of dogs. It is a book by a professional trainer, not for professional trainers. Carol Lea Benjamin does not advocate punishment. In fact, she advises to NEVER hit your dog. Appropriately correcting a dog is not a punishment any more ...

The Dog Who Knew Too Much (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)6 reviews

The Dog Who Knew Too Much
I had tried to order this book through a book store(Borders) in my area & they could not get it for me. I am happy to be able to get it from you because I have the whole series with this one missing. Your fast service & shipping was greatly appreciated. I will use your site for any future books I cannot find.

The Long Good Boy: A Rachel Alexander and Dash Mystery (Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries)6 reviews
Carol Lea Benjamin

Walker & Company, 2001

Arf and a tail wag
Carol Lea Benjamin has been a dog trainer and private investigator. Her heroine, Rachel Alexander, a dog-trainer-turned-PI, comes from a traditional Jewish family that disapproves of both her occupations. Like Rachel's family, and like Rachel herself, we readers find ourselves asking, "How did she get into this?" The Long Good Boy is sixth in the series featuring Rachel and her sidekick ...
