This book is an excellent resource for the in-class student. However I do not recommend this book and its contents for the self instructing student. The manual displays signs without definitions and can lead to easy misinterpretation and poor context understanding and usuage. Yah, I had this book for a semester and never used the video once. I think you have to be a retard to not understand this book. It shows how to sign each word as well as phrases very in depth. Awesome book.

Excellent Guide
Used with Signing Naturally Student Workbook Level 1, this guide is irreplaceable. It gives the teacher a complete plan to be used in the classroom, with games, layouts, transparency pics, everything that is needed to teach this level. I'm just hoping they come out with a guide for the Level 2 book!

This combination helps students to learn a lot about ASL.
I personally liked how the videotape complemented the workbook. The workbook can help students learn the alphabet, numbers, thousands of signs, location and emphasis of signs, money, and deaf culture (which I think is a step beyond what most American Sign Language or Signed Exact English books will go).
