Graphic Design: America Two2 reviews
D. K. Holland, Jessica Helfand, ...

Rockport Publishers, 1997

I really like this book.
I can appreciate the work of others and just think this book is beautiful. I get a great sense of how others express themselves by the way this book is presented. The cover and pages are wonderful quality paper and the images are crisp and freshly laid out. I am not a super power pro but as I mentioned, I appreciate and enjoy how artists perceive their world. Nice big book with the quality to ...

100% Evil
Nicholas Blechman, Christoph Niemann

Princeton Architectural Press, 2005

"There's evil in the world."?George W. Bush And lots of it. The question is, just what does it look like? A politician? An ex-girlfriend? Your landlord? Your boss? Hanna Arendt said it was banal. The Red Sox think of the Yankees. And in this hilarious, disturbing, quirky, and brilliant little book, noted illustrators Nicholas Blechman and Christoph Niemann present a catalog of their own misanthropic imaginings. The two met in 1997, when ...

Bat-Manga!: The Secret History of Batman in Japan
Chip Kidd

Pantheon, 2008

The two hottest genres in comics gleefully collide head-on, as the most beloved American superhero gets the coolest Japanese manga makeover ever. In 1966, during the height of the first Batman craze, a weekly Japanese manga anthology for boys, Shonen King , licensed the rights to commission its own Batman and Robin stories. A year later, the stories stopped. They were never collected in Japan, and never translated into English. Now, in this ...

The Learners: A Novel15 reviews
Chip Kidd

Scribner, 2008

excellent sequel
I agree with the other reviewers... if I hadn't loved "The Cheese Monkeys," I never would have read this book, but I'm glad I did, because it was excellent. For those who don't like Kidd's writing style, it could get annoying, but for those who do, it's another gem. Overall a great novel, very fast read, makes you think about psychology a little bit too.

Thomas Allen: Uncovered8 reviews

Aperture, 2007

3-D pulps
What a treat to get a book, open it and immediately be grabbed by the contents. 'Uncovered' did that for me. Mr Allen has been scouring pulp paperbacks for years it seems, his fight photo 'Red' was done in 2002 and used by designer Chip Kidd for the cover of James Elroy's 'Blood on the Moon'. The twenty-eight photos in the book actually turn out to be a varied selection, a sort of template ...

Batman Animated32 reviews
Paul Dini, Chip Kidd

Harper Paperbacks, 1999

A great book for a great animated series
Who best to write a book about this justifiably award-winning animated series than one of the series writer/producers--Paul Dini (who wrote one of my favorite episodes--"Heart of Ice")? And with graphic designer Chip Kidd involved, you have a book that looks great on the coffee table. The best word I can use to describe this book is "thorough." It contains superlative art in full color, ...

Chip Kidd: Book One: Work: 1986-2006 (Chip Kidd)8 reviews
Chip Kidd

Rizzoli, 2005

Why are you reading this itstead of buying the book?
This book is bound with a split hardback/softback cover, so if you appreciate design -- which I assume you do since you're considering a compilation of book designs -- the book is worth buying for this odd cover arrangement alone.

Voice Of The Fire15 reviews
Alan Moore

Top Shelf Productions, 2004

This book is a work of magic
I think that Rebecca Scott explains the book best in her greenmanreview.com review. Here is an excerpt: "If Voice of the Fire has a protagonist, it must be Northampton itself, because this is the story of the formation of the mythology of that place. It is a geological study of the strata of the collective unconscious of the area. Each of its twelve chapters is the first-person story of an ...

David Carson: 2nd Sight: Grafik Design After the End of Print11 reviews

Very cool
If you liked his first book you are sure to love this one. Carson clearly maintains his position as the most cutting-edge designer today.

Batman Collected - by Chip Kidd , with photographs by Geoff Spear - Bat man collectiblles , collectables, ...1 review
Chip & Geoff Spear / Andy Warhol, Bob Kane , et al Kidd

Bullfinch / D.C. Comics archives, 1996

Chip Kidd's great Batman collectible book!
Chip Kidd's book of Batman collectibles covers toys, games, give-aways, figures, action figures and more from the 1960s through the 1990s. Very little text except for brief descriptions and dates of items, but great photos of all. This is a fun compilation of by someone who put a great deal of thought and effort to chronicle Batman's influence on toys and collectibles over the span of about 30 ...

Batman Collected6 reviews
Geoff Spear

Little Brown and Company, 1996

Nifty as heck
Chip Kidd loves Batman and it shows on each and every page of this gasp-inspiring book. If you're like me and and grew up with unrequited desire for each and every Batman-related product available, these pictures are almost as good as having the real items. Text is sparse, but entertaining. And if you have the hardcover version of this book, you'll want this new edition as well for the new ...

Wonder Woman : The Complete History: The Life and Times of the Amazon Princess21 reviews
Les; Kidd, Chip Daniels

Chronicle Books LLC, 2000

Book AND Figurine!!! Heaven!
Not only do you get hte nostalgic book with the history of this heroine, you get the figurine that you can display and become the envy of all your friends! The statue is of classic Wonder Woman, the one from the 50's. She's still wearing the skirt. This is truly rare. It's fantastic for all collectors and a MUST-HAVE for all die-hard fans!

Batman Masterpiece Edition: The Caped Crusader's Golden Age8 reviews
Les Daniels, Geoff Spear, ...

Chronicle Books, 2000

A must for any Bat-fan
This is truly and exceptional collection for fans of the Dark Knight. The replica original comic is wonderful to read and is beautifully nostalgic. The hardbound Daniels'"Golden Age" is the perfect companion but the standout of the group is the 8" mego-like figure based on the original Bob Kane Batman of detective comics. This is absolutely the best Batman figure ever produced and is incredibly ...

When We Were Very Maakies1 review
Tony Millionaire, Dave Eggers, ...

Fantagraphics Books, 2004

Drunk! Violent!
This book is good and raunchy. Maakies is not for everyone, but neither is cancer medication. Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby get hammered, are offensive, sometimes don't make sense, and they're usually hilarious.

The Golden Age of DC Comics: 365 Days6 reviews
Les Daniels, Chip Kidd, ...

Harry N. Abrams, 2004

A collage of comics organized as a year
While the idea of making a book with 365 days may seem odd, this book is quite special. It can be read as a coffee table book. But it's really a remarkably well-informed collection of images from comics. The commentaries sometimes run for a paragraph, giving background on the artists or comic, and sometimes just a few lines, as an informative caption. What Daniels, Kidd, and Spear have done is ...

Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limits15 reviews
Art Spiegelman, Chip Kidd

Chronicle Books, 2001

Jack Cole the real Plastic Man
Biographies of comic creators are few and far apart. This by a short reach is the best of the lot. It contains all the stories we have heard about Cole (his bike trip across America, his Playboy years, his mysterous suicide). Interlaced through are reprints of some of his best works. What I liked was that the comics within seem to be reproduced from the originals, yellowing and all. If anything ...
