Zombie-tastic!
Yes, some of the stories that are in the book have been published before in other compilations, the editor even states this in the beginning, however, 'The Living Dead' is an absolute must-have for anyone who is a fan of zombies. You can not go wrong here. I would have paid this price if only for Dan Simmons short: 'This Years Class Picture'. I cried...Is that even possible in a zombie short? ...

Imajica - A feast for the senses
Having read almost everything that Clive Barker has written thus far, I will admit that Imajica contains many elements that seem to echo in several of his books; Weaveworld,The Great and Secret Show/Everville,and most recently the Abarat series. However, this does not detract in any way from the intricately woven story of Imajica. In fact, I think it is in this book that the author finally ...

Multitudinous tome for the horror and preternatural aficionado
This publication rivals most of the horror/ mystery compilations printed elsewhere. Some of the most consequential and prolific ink slingers of the creepy and the dreary are featured here, and they don't disappoint. Here, in this volume, you will find it all. The works of King, Bradbury, Jackson, Lovecraft, Poe and many others are at your reading pleasure. Some of my personal favorites: ...

One of the best novels I've read
I have always enjoyed Clive Barker's writing. His writing is not necessarily "horror" in the Lovecraft sense of things. He is more mythical in his writings, and the horror that does come comes subtle and sublime. The Great and Secret Show is just that, all the myths and whispers that underline the American facade. It, and its sequel, work together to present the ideas that would happen if ...

Can you put the puzzle box down?
I have been a fan of Clive Barker since reading Imagica a couple years ago. Barker can write some truly imaginative books. He is one of the authors that breaks the mold of our commercial carbon copy writing industry. I knew that if I was going to ever see myself a fan of his works I had to read Hellbound Heart. This is the book that started the whole Hellraiser movie series. If you ever saw ...

Books of Blood: Volumes 1-3 By Clive Barker
Clive Baker, some call him the master of horror even Stephen King Called Barker "The Future of Horror," And someone to call him a master or the future wouldent be too far off. Clive Barkers "Books of Blood:Volume 1-3" were my first attempt at Barker, and I couldent have loved them more. Volumes 1-3 are in here there are five stories in each voulme. Volume 1 Volume one had to be my favorite ...

A touching fable for the young at heart
The Great Grey Beast of February has imprisoned Harvey Swick and the young boy is bored to death. How will he ever survive that dreadfully dull period between New Year and Easter? Contemplating his misery, Harvey discovers that he is not alone in his room. Indeed a somewhat strange and scrawny figure is standing in the corner. The man makes himself known as Mr. Rictus and invites Harvey to the ...

Abarat : another word for amazing
When I read this book, I had no real idea what to expect. I had never heard of it, but there was a quote from it in another book that I really enjoyed, so I decided to take a chance. What I got was amazing. The illustrations by the author, Clive Barker, make the sometimes dream-like aspects come alive. Barker has a great handle on how to word passages to make the scenes seem to jump off the ...

clive barker and demonology
Clive Barker makes a less than triumphant return to the morbid horror story that gained him so much praise in the early days of his career. the novel itself could have stood up against any of the short stories that appeared in his legendary Books of Blood anthology, but its sense of humor leaves much to be desired. the pun is something of a statement to Barker's age, perhaps purposely senile and ...

Arabat, Days of Magic, Nights of War
I loved this book (as I love all Clive Barker material). Although this is classified as a "Young Adult" book, I think any grown-up with a sense of whimsy will thoroughly enjoy it. The illustrations are imaginative and original and the prose is acceptable. The whole world of Abarat is fantastical and quite different from other fiction of this type. Candy Quackenbush is a heroine for the ages ...

why haven't you already read this book?
Early Barker, stunning, beautiful, horrifying, terrifying, heartbreaking. All the things we love Clive for. If you haven't already read this book, why the heck not? If you have, read it again. And again.

#2? in the series, I dont think so
I love Clive Barker's work. But I feel Decieved because I have read this book before, when it was just one book. You should make this clear to your customers. I will be more careful next time. I loved the book the first time but I am not going to buy the first half again. How disappointing it was not a totally new story about the same Imajica. Or am I wrong? I don't think so.

Faithful to the Dreaming
It is funny how one can initially misjudge a book. When I first picked this volume up it was because I saw Neil Gaiman and Clive Barker's names on the cover. Then, on first perusal, I saw that Gaiman had not even written the introduction. Moreover, Barker's only contribution was the frontispiece- a drawing of Death. Nor did I immediately recognize the names of any of the contributors to the ...

Clive Barker Take Us On The Nightmare Journey Of A Lifetime
God, just talking about The Inhuman Condition makes me itch to read it all over again for the tenth time. Clive Barker, especially early Barker like In The Flesh, The Inhuman Condition & The Books Of Blood are so righteously killer, I can't help but re-reading them whenever I get the chance. Talk about visionary horror, Clive Barker turned the entire Horror Genre upside down with his fiction. ...

In The Flesh Absolutely F*cking Rox!!!!!
First things first. The Last reveiwer referred to King and Koontz as hacks. King and Koontz should not be uttered together in the same sentence. That is sacrilege. Koontz is a hack. King is God. We mock what we don't understand. We fear what we cannot perceive. And let us remember, if it wasn't for King's kindly reviews, Mr. Barker might still be an obscure genius. Let me get one thing ...

First and still the best
The first novel Barker ever wrote was also the first of his that I read, and I can still remember the impact it made on me two decades later. The assurance and clarity of the prose is shocking for a debut novelist, as is the almost tactile sense of evil that seems to leave a sticky residue on your fingers just from touching the pages. I recently picked up the damnation game for a nostalgic ...

Well, it's Clive Barker... What more can you ask for?
I never intended to review this book, partly because tons of people have done it already, and partly because this was a book I read on my "leisure time", that is, time when I wasn't reading review copies that different publishers had sent me. But hey, it's Clive Barker, and I since he's the greatest author alive today I figured I at least had to say a word or two about Everville. Just read ...

The Best Book Ever!
The Thief of Always is a exciting, fun book that keeps you want to keep on reading. A little scary but addicting. The expression bored to death, which was created by Zeus when Hermes told everlasting jokes to a monster, just means your bored for a couple minutes and then you find something to do, but to this boy he is literally bored to death and is taken to a holiday house, a kid's dream! Then ...
