Essential ActionScript 3.0 - Colin Moock
This book is brilliant. It's encyclopedic. It is a must-have to better understand AS 3 and to hopefully lower your frustration when coding. I am a designer fairly new to AS 3 and found this book gave clear, detailed explanations on every aspect of AS 3. Like an encyclopedia, each chapter breaks down specific core concepts, from Arrays and XML, into their basics. Information is laid out well and ...

Glad I didn't throw it away
Was going through my books looking to get some space on the shelf for new ones and had this in my hand ready to go but for some reason couldn't do it. I hadn't done Flash/Flex (Flesh? Flax?) in a couple of years (moved mostly to C#) then recently I got a chance to do the quirky & kludgey beast of computing again with Flash8 and This Old Book Still Had The Goods. After reading Moock's book, I not only better understand the theory behind object-oriented programming, but how to use it following best practices. I wish I hadn't taken the Java ...

Superb
Finally, an actionscript guide that is superb in its production! My hat is off to Colin and Gary for this detail-oriented volume that has cleared the smoke out of my head and has made a programmer out of an artist. Bravo!!!

Glad I don't have to carry ASDG2 around
I purchased the pocket reference at Flash Forward and have found it very useful. ASDG2 is still a must have but the reference is very good to keep with you on the go. I read through the book on the flight back and realized some things I had forgotten (I think some of it is a new addition from ASDG2). It is also very good to use if you are constantly in an external editor and don't want to flip ...
