Should be required at school
This workbook is truly the strongest complement to the classroom. It allows the student to flesh out the theoretical concept while building an important skill set for anyone who wants a career in finance. A wise investment...looking forward to the new titles coming out in the fall!

Excellent supplement or study for your own enlightenment
I am a huge fan of this book for several reasons. First, I believe that Professor Holden is absolutely right in trying to move finance from a calculator driven study to spreadsheets. Everyone uses spreadsheets in their work, NOT calculators. So, it is not only useful to use spreadsheets, but to learn how to build them. Another very nice thing about this book is that it uses plain vanilla ...

First Time Winner
Here is a story of unrelenting gloom yet also one of justice and ultimately redemption. The author, in his first try, almost makes the classic error of introducing too many characters but by the end all is resolved. Our hero, Lancaster, is a doctor and a former drug addict who emerged from rehab to work in the emergency room. In the process he lost the love of his life, a woman who one day ...

Very helpful in learning the subject
This is NOT a handy book of spreadsheet templates for use in finance. It IS a book to TEACH you about building spreadsheets for use in finance. The author has built dozens of very useful spreadsheets that he gives you step-by-step instructions on building and WHAT the step is about. If you build all of the spreadsheets in the book you will gain a great deal of understanding about the subjects ...

My first but not last Craig Holden book
When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure I would like it. It has long run on sentences in the first person, which could initially seemed rambling. But, just a few pages in I could see that his style really worked well. I was very quickly engrossed in the story, the characters and enjoyed how beautifully it was written. It held many surprises and plot twists that were unusual and ...

Damn, but this book was great!
This was the first book I've ever read by Holden, and it was an immense pleasure. It's a story of two cops, both flawed in their own different ways, tracking down a missing child. The twist is that one of the cops had his own child disappear years earlier. The characters in this book are so human, so real, so utterly believable...and the prose is just a dream. Holden writes like a poet, with ...

Wickedly Good
Approach this thin volume with caution: its spare prose and storybook opening (sweet college girl on a dream vacation to the art and architecture capitols of Europe) belie a den of figurative snakes. We learn very quickly that the trio portrayed here are duplicitous, cunning, and hungry takers. What makes them so interesting is that they are also naive, vulnerable, and a lot closer to our own ...

Excellent learning tool
Although intended as a supplement for textbooks used in college level business courses, this book is also valuable to working professionals who deal with financial modeling. Because I am a consultant and project manager I'm going to slant this review towards how my peers will benefit from the book. It's value outside of my narrow scope should be apparent. First, unlike other books that teach ...

AN UNGILDED CAGE
THE JAZZ BIRD, based on a true story, but admittedly fictionalized to add dramatic voice, is a stunning example of good characterization if nothing else. Holden brings us realistic, tragic, and multi-layered characters in the story of a murder trial in which we know the defendant is guilty. But the background is complex and nothing is quite as it seems. At times Holden's plotting does get a ...

CD has poor ROI
The CD adds no value to this book. It merely reproduces the text found in the book without adding any additional content of value to the student.

Entertaining!!
This is a good read. The characters in the story are very three dimensional. I especially like the FBI agent RedFeather. The ending is a bit surprising, but I don't like it. Apart from that the whole plot is quite well-organised. Read it on the beach, or during a long flight. You should not be disappointed!

Theoretical- much more formulas than practice here
If you want to learn the fundamentals of how, why, and when of investments, this is not your book. Understand that this book is thick with theory and long mathematical explainations and thin with practical information. If one cut out all the variations of formulas leading up to the few you need in each chapter, you could scrap about 300 pages of this book.
