Out of this world
Wonderful explanations. This is the astronomy book I never had as a kid! I'm a biologist and always thought I had the good fortune of working in the most interesting field. It sounds trite, but this book has opened my eyes to a universe out there. Now I even sort of understand black holes and the implications of relativity.

Second guessing Dan Brown
Excellent read even if Shugart is second guessing Dan Brown. Even if Brown deviates from the ideas expressed in Secrets of the Widow's Son, it can provide a basis for other aspiring writers. Interesting Masonic history making one interested in knowing more, and wondering just how big a part Masons play in U.S. History.

What's with this book cover?
I own GLORY LANE in paperback with this exact same cover. The central character's name is Seeth. Is this a web error or has the same cover art been used on two different books? It's great art; I really enjoyed finding the characters from the story. So why is it shown under this title?

A Panoramic Tour of Internet and everything it affects..
This book is a whirlwind of all things in our life that gets affected by Internet. I have read both "Being Digital" and "Silicon Snake Oil" and I agreed with both those views. I read this title and it blew me away.I am not sure why this book is out of print and why they are selling it for $0.01 The key reason is this: This book was published in 1995 and I can cite companies that were formed in ...

A wonderful tribute to a man who enriched our musical lives.
I was fortunate to meet Carl Schachter one time. He came to Ann Arbor and gave a lecture. He spoke in Rackham Hall about one of the early Beethoven Sonatas and illustrated his points by playing them at the piano. It was a fascinating lecture, and I am sorry that the details have faded in my mind after more than 25 years. However, I was introduced to him and was able to speak with him for a ...

Boarding the Enterprise
I enjoy this book because its like a bible of the 'inside information' on the specs and technical info about the Enterprise and the Federation. I enjoy writing fan-fiction, so this is a treasure chest of info.

An Intriguing Concept Superbly Done
When I first ran across "Visual Journeys: A Tribute to Space Artists," I just had to buy it. As a part-time digital space artist and lifelong admirer of the works of such luminaries as Chesley Bonestell, Fred Freeman and Ludek Pesek, how could I resist? I figured that the artwork alone would be worth the price of the book even if the stories were disappointing--which I fully expected them to be, ...

Disastermedicine
This text represents the first scientificly based attempt to define the clinical practice of disaster medicine. Despite the underlying science it is easy to read and understand and should appeal to nonmedical readers as well. It is a must for anyone trying to understand the impact of disasters in our modern era.

An extremely useful and informative book on an important social trend
This is a collection of short pieces, some written especially for the book and some reprinted from other sources. The authors have also interviewed a number of the more famous bloggers or other people analyzing the trend. This variety makes it an extremely useful introduction to the phenomenon. It certainly isn't a gripping read, but the ideas are fascinating. This is not a how-to book, ...

The Opacity of Spiral Disks (NATO Science Series C: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Volume 469)
Kluwer Academic
, 1995
The opacity of spiral disk galaxies is an issue that has only recently resurfaced after many years of hibernation. It was not thought to be an important issue in relation to our understanding of galaxies. The theme of The Opacity of Spiral Disks is the determination of just how much of a galaxy's stellar output is reprocessed through the interstellar medium. Many techniques are described and observations over a wide range of wavelengths ...
