Graphic Java 2, Volume 2, Swing (3rd Edition) (Sun Microsystems Press Java Series) (2 Book Set)49 reviews
David Geary

Prentice Hall PTR, 1999

A standard to which more technical books should measured
Mr. Geary has produced a wonderfully comprehensive guide to Java Swing, patiently explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each component, along with the theory behind Swing's framework. Every piece of software was written to solve a problem. If a programmer really wants to understand the limitations (i.e. how to use it effectively) of software, he/she must understand the problem it ...

Google Web Toolkit Solutions: More Cool & Useful Stuff3 reviews
David Geary, Rob Gordon

Prentice Hall PTR, 2007

My new review
I posted a review (back in January, this updated review is posted in late May 2008) that slammed Prentice Hall for not making the code samples available from anywhere except through a 90 day free trail thru Safari (an online subscription based service). The editor and one author responded and let me know that the site was incorrectly missing in the book, but that a site (called ...

Advanced JavaServer Pages24 reviews
David M. Geary

Prentice Hall PTR, 2001

Excellent
I would recommend this extremely well-written book to anyone who is seriously interested in J2EE architecture. If you have basic familiarity with server-side Java (servlets, JSP), Advanced JavaServer Pages will help you understand design patterns and strategies that are widely popular among experienced J2EE software developers, such as Model 2 Architecture or Composite View. The author provides a ...

Google Web Toolkit Solutions: Cool & Useful Stuff

Pearson Education (USA), 2007

The Google Web Tookit (GWT) is a cutting-edge UI framework for Java developers, which lets you create rich, interactive user interfaces using familiar idioms from Java-s Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT), Swing, and the Eclipse Foundation-s SWT. If you-ve used any of those frameworks in the past, you-re already halfway up the GWT learning curve. This short cut assumes that you have already installed GWT and have experimented with its basic ...

Origin of Mind: Evolution of Brain, Cognition, and General Intelligence5 reviews
David C. Geary

American Psychological Association (APA), 2004

The Definitive Work on the Brain As WeKnow It
The brain has long been the most mysterious of the organs. Part of the problem has been that the brain can be viewed in so many different ways. The same organ can think of Einstein's Theory of Relativity in one instant and be smiling and talking baby talk to an infant the next. In this book Dr. Geary brings together research from neuroscience, behavior genetics, and cognitive science along ...

Core JSTL: Mastering the JSP Standard Tag Library (Core Series)8 reviews
David Geary

Prentice Hall PTR, 2002

J2EE Guy
One of the best books i found on JSTL. Provides in-depth knowledge & extensive examples of JSTL. This book helps us to understand why, where and how to use JSTL tags. follows the typical MVC pattern [ a clear separation of View from Model] Though, I am not a great fan of SQL, XML tags, the Core & I18N JSTL tags are not only valuable but also easy to use. Now we could have non-Java programmers ...

The Job Developer's Handbook6 reviews

Brookes Publishing Company, 2007

An Excellent Look At Customized Employment
Griffin, Hammis and Geary take on Customized Employment (CE) in a powerful and thought-provoking way in this new book that is destined to become a "must-read" for professionals assisting job-seekers with significant disabilities, as well as families and friends. The authors examine the roots of CE and lay out strategies for providing support services in non-traditional ways that bring each ...

Male, Female: The Evolution of Human Sex Differences8 reviews
David C. Geary

American Psychological Association (APA), 1998

A provocative theory of sex differences
I wasn't sure at first, but after reading this book I was convinced that human sex differences are related to sexual selection. In all, this was the most interesting and thoughtful book that I have ever read on sex differences.

Further Fenway Fiction: More Short Stories from Red Sox Nation2 reviews
Adam Emerson Pachter, Steve Almond, ...

Rounder Books, 2007

Von Euw stands out in this collection
Further Fenway Fiction is a labor of love, and demonstrates a passion that stretches beyond the playing field. Michelle Von Euw's story in particular highlights not only the innocence of the game in its truest form, but also of human nature. Baseball fans, Red Sox diehards, and lovers of short fiction will most certainly enjoy this collection.

Graphic Java 1.2, Volume 1: AWT, Third Edition18 reviews
David M. Geary

Prentice Hall PTR, 1998

33 missing pages!
After about a month of ownership, I discovered that 33 pages were missing. That's right, pages 547-578, gone. Page 546 is in Chapter 15, ending in the middle of a class listing, and the facing page is page 579 in Chapter 16, picking up in the middle of an entirely different conversation. That's assumedly the publisher's fault, so I still give this great book 5 stars. It's more of a reference ...
