The Great Bridge75 reviews
David mccullough

Simon & Schuster, 1972

"Hey, I have this Bridge in Brooklyn that I want to sell to you!!"
The engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge was John A. Roebling. Unfortunately he never saw the results of his genius. It was his Son Washington Roebling along with his wife Emily who would bring the bridge to fruition over the East River. It was the major connect between Manhattan and the borough of Brooklyn, Long Island. It doesn't sound like much but this bridge developed the great metropolis of ...

MORNINGS ON HORSEBACK
I NEVER RECIEVED THIS BOOK. It was returned to sender as undeliverable. The reason is the address was to my winter residence for which I have a mail transfer through the post office with mail going to my summer address and the post office would not transfer anything except fist class mail and I didn't know that when I placed the order. I will have to order it again after October first.

Page Turner
I absolutely loved this book! I enjoy reading history and biographies, but as anyone who does the same knows dry and dull writing can simply kill the experience. David McCullough is an amazing writer and honors his philosophy of making history interesting and turning it into a story. The book is very well researched, historically accurate, and interesting to read. I found it a "page turner" ...

The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal 1870-1914129 reviews
David McCullough

Simon & Schuster, 1977

A man, a plan, a canal . . .
The epitome of what a general narrative history should be-informative, fun, inspiring. McCullough begins by tracing the idea of an isthmian canal in history, continues with the two abortive French efforts to complete the canal, and finally covers the completion of the canal in its political and technical aspects under the leadership of the United States. The technical aspects are ...

John Adams-20011 review
David McCullough

Simon & Schuster, 2001

I put off reading the last fifteen pages for three days because I just didn't want it to be over.
Have you ever read a book that was so good that you felt guilty reading it? Neither have I, but McCullough's John Adams came mighty close. If you like history, especially American history, you just can't live much longer without devouring this biography that reads like a novel. Not only does McCullough give the story of John Adams, and his wonderful wife Abigail, but also along the way he ...

This book was very much enjoyed by the recipient. He really enjoyed reading about the area where members of his family grew up - tho a few years after the flood.

1776: The Illustrated Edition19 reviews
David McCullough

Simon & Schuster, 2007

best book ever written
1776 is the best book I have ever read, period. And it is non-fiction. I could not put it down.

Truman284 reviews
David McCullough

Simon & Schuster, 1993

Long, but well worth the length
I was given this book as a Christmas present. I had read McCullough's 1776 and John Adams and had enjoyed them both (although I was disappointed in the brevity of 1776). Still this book (Truman) stayed on my shelf gathering dust for over six months. I was initially overwhelmed with its length and afraid to tackle it (I had failed with Vidal's Lincoln and didn't want to repeat that result). I ...

David McCullough

Thorndike Press, 2005

The Struggle of an Infant Nation
David McCullough takes the reader back to the very first year of our Republic in 1776 which indeed is the seminal year of the existence of the United States. Not only did America sever its relations with England, it went to war with that Nation. In essence this is a story of George Washington's struggles and it tells of the making of his leadership skills. It also tells of a man who learns ...

The Course of Human Events10 reviews

Simon & Schuster Audio, 2005

Captivating. Picturesque. Vibrant.
To say that David McCullough has a way with words is like describing Mozart as having a way with music. McCullough has an ear for language and the spoken word the same way a wonderful photographer has an eye for a picture- it is just perfect. McCullough gives us a precious gift with THE COURSE OF HUMAN EVENTS as he describes his career and its subjects. He reminds us that we can only live in ...

The Book of Abigail & John: Selected Letters of the Adams Family 1762-17843 reviews
Abigail Smith Adams, John Adams

Northeastern University Press, 2002

The First Harvard Collection of Adams Letters--1975
This collection is the first assemblage of the letters between John and Abigail Adams published by Harvard University Press. Subsequently, in 2007, an expanded collection was published by Harvard, under the editorship of different scholars, with the title of "My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams" (which I also reviewed on Amazon). While the newer version has more letters (289 v. ...

Short-Term Therapy for Long-Term Change5 reviews
Robert J., M.D. Neborsky, Leigh McCullough, ...

W. W. Norton & Company, 2001

The Rosetta Stone of Psychotherapies
This is a book that is bound to improve the psychotherapeutic skills of practitioners who read it. For those unfamiliar with recent developments in the dynamic short-term therapy movement, it convincingly dispels the concept of "non-specific factors" in treatment outcome. For those more familiar with the authors it reveals the pivotal foci to which they attend while using disparate appearing ...

FACES BY DAVID MCCULLOUGH
An official Library Weekly book review. EXCERPT: How can we know what they looked like? The answers are in what they themselves said in pocket diaries... Mornings on Horseback: The Story of an Extraordinary Family, a Vanished Way of Life and the Unique Child Who ...1 review
David McCullough, 1982

This Book Answers: What made Teddy Roosevelt Tick?
Teddy was a small frail asthmatic child whose iron will and loving family helped transform him into one of the most powerful leaders of all time. This is truly an inspirational book that lets us peek behind the curtain of an upper class family in the late 1800's. Teddy was blessed with two loving parents who nurtured him with the things he needed to grow into an amazing human being. ...

Our White House: Looking In, Looking Out3 reviews

Candlewick, 2008

Famous Children's Authors Write About the White House
This book is a contemplation of many stories about the White House. Some are old, most are written by famous children's authors of the day. Great book illustrators are included too! (I want a poster of Eric Carle's contribution.) Every single entry is superlative and of great interest. I was absorbed from beginning to end. I am a teacher and my only problem will be how to share this book ...

Wars of the Irish Kings: A Thousand Years of Struggle, from the Age of Myth through the Reign of Queen ...4 reviews
David W. Mccullough

Three Rivers Press, 2002

A wonderful resource
This book contains stories from a thousand years of Irish kings, as drawn from primary sources. The book begins with the legendary stories of the Book of Invasions, and the stories of Cuchulain, Finn MacCool and Mad King Sweeney, all of which are translated in a clear and compelling style. The stories then continue through to Hugh O'Neill and the Nine Years War. Each section begins with an ...

John Adams (UNABRIDGED CD) [AUDIOBOOK CD]1 review
David McCullough, 2003

I loved it!
Listening to this book made rush hour about a hundred times more enjoyable! The subject was interesting. The story telling, if you will, was moving, especially when dealing with the circumstances that resulted in succesful agreement by the colonies to declare independence from Britain. It brought tears to my eyes to hear about Ceasar Rodney's over-night ride! This book gave me a greater ...
