Horrified
Horrified there are not more collections like this. If you remember the old Pan Books of Horror and you liked them you will like this more. The reason: there are echoes of the old masters, (in fact there are some old masters, notabley David A. Riley with his chilling LOCK-IN - told with all the macabre inuendo of P.K. Dick.) - But also horror has moved in time, become more surreal and fuller ...

Peril in the Powder Mills
A wealth of information for the black powder enthusiast and the student of history. It gives insight into the gunpowder industry and the dangers involved. Good Book on 2004 Election
The regional approach is novel for these kinds of books. This well done book is more interesting and relevant than most election books. It is the best book on 2004.

Good for VC++6 beginners
If you are a VB++6 programmer or non programmer at all and want to learn VC++6 programming, this book is for you. It describes the VC++6 setup, basic C++ programming syntex, basic VC++6 programming skills and general software development knowledge, but does not cover much advanced skills. This book shows a bigger but not deeper picture than what you may expect from a C++ programming book.

Great Book
Over all I thought this was a great book. It reviewed the basics I learned in signals and systems over six years ago and taught me some new concepts I wasn't yet aware of. One piece of evidence I have for the quality of this book is: after reading it I was able to pick up a technical journal and felt like I understood most of what they were talking about. Before reading the book I was lost in ...

Excellent in every way!
Tao of Skiing is technically not a book. It is a CD-ROM packed full of goodies. The multimedia works very well especially if you are looking for a better way to ski. The Tao of Sking is the most rewarding reference I have found. Thousands of hints and ideas, photos, diagrams and a dozen quicktime videos kept me totally engaged. I also purchased the xczone video "On Snow" and can highly ...

Easy to Read
Easy to read with instructive examples. Great for beginners to Visual Basic who want to learn how to do meaty tasks like develop ActiveX controls, DLL's etc. Has a good overview of file and database programming and a nice introduction to classes. I would recommend this book to readers who have done their first "21 days" level book and want to move on to the next level.

Quantum Mechanics Demystified

good book
This is a good book for anyone trying to teach yourself quantum mechanics, and it is a good supplement to any quantum mechanics class. The author talked about hopefully making a 2nd book on this topic to add to this book (not a 2nd edition, but another book) because this one does lack some of the more complicated topics in quantum mechanics.
Circuit Analysis Demystified

Informative but with many errors
I bought this book to start reviewing for the PE licensure examination. The circuit analysis section of the PE Exam is approximately 30%, so I figured this book will be a good start to study. After started doing the calculations, many errors were found. So, I'm kind of reluctant to work thru the examples, I will attempt just to read thru the theory.

not a replacement for a classical mechanics (physics) class
As a physicist this book was not as useful as other books by D. McMahon since it does not go into the details and examples of lagrangian and hamiltonian mechanics. Could be a good book for an undergraduate who just finished his or her intro physics101 class. This book is probably intended for engineers and not physicists.

The most bug-ridden book I've ever seen
The number of bugs, errors, typos, misplaced code snippets and screenshots must be seen to be believed. In many cases text that is supposed to be formatted Mathematica -style is printed as plain text within the flow of the normal text, leading to isolated words or code fragments between sentences (pp. 43). In some places screenshots have nothing to do with the content at all (p. 25), then again ...

A great book for students
This book is really clear. It's a lot easier to understand than the book we are using for the class and has helped me grasp the lectures better.
MATLAB Demystified

OK introduction to Matlab but plagued by typos and other problems
Overall this book is a reasonable introduction to Matlab 7.x but it tends to drag in places and seem rushed in others. Also, there are enough typographical errors in the examples to make it difficult to arrive at the expected results especially if one is a beginner. For example, the solution to one of the quiz questions in chapter 5 requires the use of the "eval" function which was never ...

Wish it had come out a long time ago
When I was first trying to learn Quantum Field Theory (QFT), at the end of my college years and at the beginning of the graduate schools, the jump from the "regular" quantum mechanics seemed almost insurmountable. Even with a full year of graduate quantum mechanics, the kinds of concepts and calculations that are the staple of the QFT seemed beyond anything that I had encountered in Physics ...

A Bumpy Ride but Well Worth the Effort
While this is not exactly the "learning of relativity at the speed of light" the book advertises, unlike many others of the Demystified series, this volume does indeed have its high points. The lead up to Einstein's Field Equations -- although the notational gymnastics and some of the mathematics was daunting -- is nevertheless first class. It gives the reader a very much-needed window into ...

extended maths examples
If you already have taken courses in elementary quantum mechanics, McMahon removes much of the mystery about quantum computing. The first portion of the book centres on the mathematical preparation. Describing probability distributions, linear algebra and finding eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a system. It is only around the middle of the book that we start to seriously encounter quantum ...
