This text book's a keeper!
A common problem with text books is how dry they can make the material seem, not so with this book! It is filled with interesting case studies, helpful quotes, captivating illustrations and probing concept questions. The chapters are well outlined and have helpful review questions at the end of each section. The author slips in bits of dry humor, which keeps the reader engaged. This text ...

Great General Psychology Book
This book gives a very good, comprehensive overview of the major disciplines in psychology. The text is long, but is well mixed with pictures, diagrams, and activities. The text is also very readable. This book is used as a college text for an Introduction to Psychology class. The material is presented in from a secular, non-biased perspective, highlighting major terms and discoveries and the ...

Ideal Text
David Myers has done something incredible: written a near perfect textbook that can be used both at the AP and university level. Obsessively up to date, and an occasional quip so you can have a laugh. The book is balanced with physiological explanations as well as some representative behavioral treatments. The text is now a standard for beginning level psychology.

perfect timing: the necessary bridge between seemingly disparate worlds
I just finished David Myers' latest book in his never ending quest to write enough to fill a book shelf in my basement. I think this is his 17th book. He has earned the trust of readers with his careful scholarship and willingness to share his personal beliefs and biases so that we know where he stands on issues so that we can formulate our own interpretation. If only more authors did this. ...

"For anyone who wants to make the world a better place." ~JC Angelcraft
David Meyers Social Psychology was one of finest Psychology books that I read in my undergraduate studies. In his book, Dr. Myers, makes no claim to ultimate knowledge in this still vastly unexplored field. After thousands of years since becoming a literate species, Dr. Myers examines the nature of human tendencies. In his book, Dr. Myer challenges the reader to explore such issues as ...

For a textbook, it's actually pretty decent. However, face it: you're buying this for a class so you really don't have a choice.
So, you're taking Social Psychology and this is the book that made it through the stringent textbook selection and review process, and now you find yourself blessed with the opportunity to pay 3x what a book is worth, because it's a textbook! Lucky you. Well, at least if you buy it here you'll save another $35 over what your campus bookstore wants you to pay for it. Go for it, I say! Stick to the ...

Awesome for intro. to psychology
It seems that many other books in psychology do not offer information in such a broad and defined view to the wide content that creates Psychology as a science. I would recommend this book to someone instead of the For Dummies or Complete Idiots Guide series. The logic behind many concepts are shown in cartoons, pictures, and presentations. I would say this book, in many aspects, is descriptive. ...

Intro psyc book that raises the bar
I used this for an intro to psychology class. I quickly got interested in it and noticed how straight to the point everything is. After all was said and done, I think this has to be the psyc book everyone should own. I get to rent textbooks from the university, but this one I'm buying sometime soon... just now there's a new edition out (can't be too much different though... like 7 month gap ...

flaw in the system
my opinion when reviewing the service i received is one that is not good. I ordered the exploring social psychology book by meyers for school and what i received in the mail was a completely different book by a different author. The thing that strikes me the most as interesting is that on the inventory sheet that came with the book said that i had ordered the right book but someone in one of ...

A Happy Chance Find
I saw this while browsing a local bookstore and picked it up, and I'm glad I did. Myers and Scanzoni make a very convincing case that A) marriage is good for both individuals and society and should therefor be protected, and that B) the best way to protect marriage and promote a healthy society is to allow gays to marry as well. They contend that the battle against gay marriage serves to support ...

A treasure-trove of modern wisdom
I first heard of "The Pursuit of Happiness" by David G. Myers as a recommended read in "Psychology Applied to Modern Life" by Wayne Weiten and Margaret A. Lloyd - a truly remarkable textbook. This obviously gives immediate credibility to this book, and I have to say that my personal assessment of it is in keeping with that of the two aforementioned authors. Take these few quotes as a preview ...

Waste of time
I didnt find it helpful at all during the semester I took Intro to Psychology. I found it to slow me down in my studies since the cooresponding book has such long chapters. If you are taking more that this course this semester or any semester for that matter, I think you might find this to be true as well.

A fascinating read
This is an amazing book; it explains how and why we think and respond in ways that we do, and how much of our entire thought process takes place below the surface of our conscious mind. Myers takes the results from dozens of psychological studies and explains them in ways that are interesting and humorous. He also looks at which elements of our intuition we should question, and which are more ...
