A storytime success
The clear photos with humorous cartoon-like embellishments are very appealing to kids. Though the fold-out design makes it tricky to share the book with a group, the question-and-answer format holds kids' attention. I was able to withhold the book's "gimmick"-- the large, full-length picture of the lamb-- until the very end when I used it with my library storytime groups.

A plant family that may be more ingenious than the orchids
I've long been a fan of the Orchidaceae, but I didn't know that the Aroids are possibly an even more advanced branch of the Monocotlydons. This book exposes some shocking facts. Some species routinely metabolize lipids to generate temperatures over 100 F around their inflorescence while surrounding temps are near freezing. Other species manufacture aromatic compounds rarely encountered outside ...

The City is covered from head to toe in this book, with tons of useful information about hours of operation of mosques, ...
The Healing Garden: Nature's Remedies & Cures
Helen Farmer-Knowles
Sterling Pub Co Inc
, 1998
There are many kinds of healing, and a garden filled with life and flowers and the wildlife it might attract can be healing in and of itself on some level. But Farmer-Knowles takes the healing process much further here, giving the reader the tools and guidelines needed to extract healing remedies from common garden plants. Artichoke teas to help with liver and gall-bladder problems, catnip to ease flu symptoms, poultices from leeks, ...
