A Fine Edition of a Classic
"Brief Lives" has always been a delight, but it was Oliver Lawson Dick's scholarly editing that revealed Aubrey's genius. And Lawson Dick's Introduction, "The Life and Times of John Aubrey", is a miracle of synthesis and compression: certainly one of the finest biographical essays ever written. This Nonpareil Books edition is sumptuous - a joy to read in these days cheap, quickly produced ...

An excellent starting point
This text will not make you a wizened internet programming guru... but it doesn't pretend to do so. What it does promise, and deliver, is a solid grounding in the creation of basic web pages. The book starts with the absolute basics; nothing is assumed. Finding someone to host your web site is covered, as is the creation of files using the Windows Notepad text editor and the uploading of files ...

First rate entry level HTML primer
Laura Lemay has become one of the premier writers of web development texts, and this book is a good example. Many entry level texts get you started using code that has been depricated by the W3C, knowing full well that future browsers may not support the coding methods they are teaching. Laura does an excellent job of introducing newcomers to the "art" of web development while at the same time, ...

This book improved my skill level, are you ready to improve yours?
As an IT professional that has built and maintained personal web sites for several years, I decided I needed to better understand what I was doing. I have used Front page for years to build the basic structure of my web pages, then venturing into the HTML to modify and add functionality. I never have taken a class or read any other books on HTML, if I got stuck, I would do a search and find a ...

Best HTML book for everyone
I read this book a few years ago when I knew nothing of HTML and it was an amazing experience. I read this book in the car on a 14 hour trip and on that 14th hour, I was already an intermediate HTML programmer. The book is broken down into 24 chapters that are each very detailed and smooth. Reading this book was almost like watching a good movie. After every chapter, I found myself wanting ...

Worth Reading
Angel Falls covers a surprising number of philosophical topics including religion, racism, nature vs. nurture, and predestination in a concise read, tied together with a story of two very different (yet both morally upstanding) individuals. Part I is written like non-fiction while Part II steps into a somewhat supernatural future.

This book is a "must" for any web developers' library!
"Creating Your Own Web Graphics with Paint Shop Pro" is an excellent addition to any graphics library. Andy Shafran and Dick Oliver work well together as they tell you which graphics to use on your web page, how to create them from scratch, how to work with existing graphics and more. If you have ever wanted to create or rework existing graphics but didn't know where to start, this book is for ...

gamelan.com is better!
This is a good book for people who are interrested in computer graphics, but not for programmers who wants to make fancy programs. This book covers some of the mathematics behind the graphics but it doesn't covers everything that you want to know. If you want to program computer graphics with this book you definitly have to buy another book to compensate the missing parts in this one... ..or ...
We Passed This Way: A Coast-To-Coast Bicycle Trip with Historical Reflections

Inspiring
I can't think of a better way to see the country and to get in shape than to take a cross-country bike ride. The author of this book shows that while it is not the easiest thing to do, it is not an impossible task. The historical references add to this story, and had me longing to be out on the road with them. What I look for in a travel book is to be pushed into a longing to join them or ...
