I use this set every day of my life !!
I must be honest, I'm writing this review mostly to netralize the bad reviews thus far. That this book is on a CD only begins to demonstrate the effectiveness of it's contents, but this IS indeed an important feature. I only wish this came out sooner (or I bought it sooner), when I was web-designing free-lance a couple of years ago.

Still a very helpful, very valuable reference
Getting a bit long in tooth, but Linux hasn't changed that much since this was published in 2005. Much of it is a reprint of what you'll find in the MAN pages, with better tyography and formatting. Not particularly helpful for the rank beginner, unless used as a secondary source. As a handy reference to Linux - truly Linux in a nutshell - it still has no equal in terms of comprehensiveness ...

I've used Perl for several years and love this book
Exactly as advertised, "Perl in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference" is a great reference book if you already have a basic understanding of Perl. Although it does have a section that it refers to as an "Introduction to Perl" it is actually a pretty cursory introduction and there are better books for learning the basics of Perl. A priceless book!
It is hard to be enthusiastic sometimes about a book that seems to contain only commands and summaries of various programming tools. This book contains an excellent section on vi (which was easy to start with) and emacs (which really is complicated). The Emacs sections is reason enough for buying the book.
