This book was read on Montana Public Radio, and is a wonderful, moving story of nature, change, and humanity. Rich in its simplicity, profound in its beauty. Highly recommended.

Growing Up With Edin Blyton's Famous Five.
I had not even heard of Enid Blyton until an aunt in Australia sent me a copy of 'Five Go Down To The Sea'. That would have been about 1955 and I was immediately captivated by Enid's pure sense of mood and adventure. I must have re-read the book a half-dozen times in just a few weeks and got to know farmer Penruthlan, Yan, The Barnies and Clopper the horse as if they were real friends of my very ...

a bibliomaniac
I think the only reason I became an avid reader was because I was introduced to Enid Blyton books as a child. Born and raised in the tropics(part of the British Empire at one time), I found it hard to believe that I coudn't find them easily at bookstores here in the USA when I wanted to buy them for my daughter. I would say the first books I chose to pick up for her to read were the Wishing Chair ...

The adventure that started it all
The Famous Five novels by Enid Blyton are a British institution in the United Kingdom and occupy a place in the bookshelves of nearly every self-respecting pre-teen. When I was growing up in the UK I devoured all the Blyton books I could get a hold of and then went onto her Secret Seven and (my all-time favorite) Adventure series. The format for the books is essentially the same - a band of ...

Read and reread as a child - can't praise these highly enough
I grew up in the USA and got to read these when a friend brought them back from her summer vacation in the UK. I was in the sixth grade then and unhappy at school, so reading about this boarding school was a wonderful escape, where the teachers were kind and wise if often stern, and the students genuinely cared about working hard and growing into women of character. The books show strong moral ...

Adventure Series a must have for kids
My Mother read my siblings and I these books when we were kids. We just loved them and would hate when she would have to put it down for the night. I will for sure read them to my kids when I have them. Thank you Amazon for carrying these wonderful books by this wonderful Author.

The Land of Far Beyond
My earliest childhood memories are of reading every Enid Blyton book I could get hold of. Secret 7 and Mallory Towers were prime favourites. I think I was about 7 or 8 when I stumbled upon "The land of Far Beyond" and initially thought it a very strange departure from the usual adventure stuff. The story is about some children who meet a stranger and then depart on a long journey, on route ...

All time Children's Classics
Enid Blyton was my favourite author as a child and continues to receive my high esteem. I recently bought these books for my neice who is as yet far too young to read them. I can't wait for a couple of years until she is old enough to sit and listen while 'aunty kat' reads them to her. It did take me a while to find the books as i was determined to find older publications with the correct names ...

If you have children, share Enid Blyton with them!
I recently shared my old collection of Enid Blyton books with my son, who is 7 years old. They were an instant hit! The stories are full of imagination and humor and it is a shame that finding new copies is so difficult. I would advise anyone looking for childrens books to start with this author.

Excellent childrens' adventures
This was one of my favorites books in a serries that was a hall mark of my childhood. The children in Blyton's books have adventures that include burried treasure and secret rooms. They are gripping with nary a hint of magic wands or video games. In our world of internet and cell phones some of their problems will seem no challenge to modern children, but for those who can see these in the world ...

Very good reading for children
I have read most all of Enid Blyton's books, esply her adventure series of Famous Five, The Five Find-Outers and dog, and also her three boarding school series. Most children outside the US read a lot of her work. Her work is not only creative, thus appealing to children, but it establishes fundmental concepts of right and wrong, and a simple code of ethics. Some would call it ...

Great author, great books
I devoured these books too and loved them and the characters. I remember staying up half the night because I couldn't bear to put them down! And by the way, Harry Potter wouldn't exist without Blyton, as its format is based on her school series (also excellent.) I highly recommend these for children 6-10, although my sister and I still reread them.

Adventures of Mr Pinkwhistle
I read this book about 30 years ago and was so delighted by it that I now want to get it for my niece. It is a totally magical book full of mischief and fun while also, if memory serves me well having a few moral ideas for the young. I absolutely loved the book and would recommend it highly. As each chapter tells of a new adventure it makes it easy to read especially at night. Bedtime stories ...

A great Enid Blyton book for all!
It's sad this book is out-of-print. Of all books, Enid Blyton loved to write about her circus series. Jimmy Brown is an everyday boy, going to school, etc. UNTIL Dad becomes carpenter for big-shot Galliano's Circus. Mum worries that this isn't the right thing for Jimmy, but somehow the two convince her it is. Jimmy has already gotten to know the circus folk - Jeminma the silly monkey, ...

A jolly good read
One of the best in the series, and one of my personal favorites. This time, our five friends: Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy of course, set out on a holiday in caravans each drawn by a sturdy little horse. The trip starts off peacefully enough, but of course an adventure soon appears...this time from the circus camp located near where the five are staying. Why are Lou the acrobat and Dan ...

Classic Children's Book for All Ages
My oldest sister used to read these books to me and my other siblings when we were kids. She probably doesn't remember this, but I always will, being among my fondest childhood memories. The RunAway books were wildly fun and endearing with vivid writing, compelling stories and finely drawn characters, especially the children. Their heroic escapades and wordly resoluteness set an empowering ...

What a shame
I second the comments made by the reviewer above. I can still remember reading The Secret Seven and Famous Five books when I was a kid and praying that I too somehow will be transported to their world and relive all the adventures that they've gone through. I came in here looking for Ms. Blyton's books for a gift to my niece but I was doubtly dissapointed that they are mostly out of print. ...

Modern updates?
I cannot encourage teachers, librarians and parents enough to add Enid Blyton and especially this series to their shelves. Great bedtime read-aloud, excellent introduction to listening to chapter books. Note to owners of older copies, this new version has been altered. I was slightly shocked when my copy arrived. The names of the children were different than in my old used copies of the ...
