The Cambridge Companion to the Bible (Companions to Religion)3 reviews
Howard Clark Kee, Eric M. Meyers, ...

Cambridge University Press, 2007

Introduction to Biblical Studies
This is not a scholarly book in the sense that it's not part of any visible academic debate. It does not treat any particular issue in enough depth to be so. It is, rather, a sort of textbook. Call it "Introduction to Academic Thought About the Bible." Following the order of the biblical texts and with detours to discuss such topics as the pseudepigrapha and the inter-testamental period, the ...

CSS: The Definitive Guide25 reviews
Eric Meyer

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2006

Very authoritative and complete
Before purchasing this book, I had purchased about a half dozen books on css, one from the same author. I was really surprised to find new ways to use css that I hadn't learned in the other books. Each topic is discussed completely and in detail. For a reference on css, this book is the best I've found.

CSS Web Site Design Hands on Training (Hands-On Training)14 reviews
Eric Meyer

Peachpit Press, 2006

A true tutorial about CSS
There are a lot of books about CSS. There are a lot of books pretending to be a tutorial about CSS. In my opinion, this book is one the few recent books about CSS that is worth for a beginner in the field.

CSS Pocket Reference (Pocket Reference (O'Reilly))29 reviews
Eric Meyer

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2004

Exactly what it is supposed to be ..
Great little reference book. It is not intended to be a learning tool. If you want that, try the Head First book on HTML/XHTML/CSS that O'Reilly also publishes. It's a super little time-saver, and also makes for a quick read when designing a new page or project, to see if something you haven't used previously could benefit your work.

CSS Pocket Reference: Visual Presentation for the Web (Pocket Reference)4 reviews
Eric Meyer

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2007

Handy and complete reference
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is the W3C standard for the visual presentation of web pages, although it can be used in other situations too. The book begins with a short introduction to the basic concepts of CSS. What follows is an alphabetical reference to all CSS2.1 selectors, and finally an alphabetical reference to all CSS2.1 properties. This is a good handy reference once you understand CSS, ...

Designing CSS Web Pages (VOICES)40 reviews
Christopher Schmitt

New Riders Press, 2002

Disappointing
The author wrote O'Reilly's CSS Cookbook, which is a pretty good book. However, Designing CSS Web Pages is only potentially a pretty-good book. It needs serious technical AND simple gramatical editing. Some of the sentences aren't sentences. Some of the illustrations don't match the concept they're meant to illustrate. And, worst of all, the author often omits to tell you just why in heck ...

CSS Web Site Design1 review
Eric Meyer

lynda.com, Inc, 2006

Excellent video series
I just finished watching this video series, and I'm pretty impressed. The setup is very professional, and easy to watch. Eric Meyer uses a made-up site, Javaco Tea, for teaching the CSS concepts. And, he goes through every detail, from masthead to footer, explaining how each piece works. He assumes you already know the basics of CSS syntax, and the reasons for using CSS. At the same time, he ...

Swarm Intelligence: A Whole New Way to Think About Business1 review

A thought provoking read...
Originally published in the Harvard Business Review (May 2001), this article explains the concept of "Swarm Intelligence" (aka "Emergence Theory") and the opportunities of its application to solving business problems. Swarm Intelligence is derived from the study of the behavior of social insects like ants and bees. Ants are able to find the most efficient route to food sources, for example, by ...
