Maria Von Trapp: Beyond the Sound of Music (Trailblazer Biographies)3 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Carolrhoda Books, 2002

A wonderful biography, even for an adult
Although I am a senior adult, I thoroughly enjoyed this biography. I often preread books that I wish to share with my grandchildren. I had often wondered how Maria had come to the convent in the first place and this book takes one back to her early beginnings before that point and then leads one on from there. The book is a fast and enjoyable read. I recommend it heartily!

Susannah (Sunfire, No 2)14 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1984

She's not Scarlett... and that's a good thing!
Despite the image on the back cover, Susannah isn't Scarlett. She's a resiliant, strong girl who doesn't wallow in melodrama. War is not romanticized in this book - not only is the loss of life unflinchingly told, but the terrible price that those on the homefront faced - poverty, starvation, and a generally unsettled life. But this isn't a grim story, because of the romance between Susannah ...

Nicole (Sunfire, No 19)11 reviews
F. Candice Ransom, Candice F. Ransom

Scholastic, 1986

What a page turner!
This is an excellent story. I really like the historical accuracy that the author captured regarding the events and people on the Titanic. Every character is unique and proves his or her strength throughout the journey to survive.

Emily (Sunfire, No 11)7 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Scholastic, 1985

An Exciting and Educational Book
Emily was my favorite book as a child. It taught me a lot about the history of women in medicine and since it describes the dawn of the 20th century, it is especially relevant now, as we face the dawn of the 21st century. Emily is a love story. A young debutante falls in love with a poor medical student and, at the same time, with the world of medicine. Much to her family's shock and ...

The Big Green Pocketbook8 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

HarperTrophy, 1995

Fantastic!~
This is truly a wonderful book! This story is told by the little girl who is going to town with her mother for the morning. She has a big green pocketbook, just like Mama's, but hers is empty and she can't find anything to put inside it. Mama says "hurry", because the bus is coming, so the little girl brings her empty pocketbook along anyway. During the course of the morning, she gathers many ...

The Promise Quilt6 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Walker Books for Young Readers, 2002

A book for your child that will make you weep
Both of my Grandmothers quilted, but no other family members seem to believe in the magic of a homemade quilt. I purchased this book for my three preschool daughters. Little did I know what a powerful read aloud opportunity this is. You get: children helping without complaining, a girl who wants to go to school to learn to make her mark, a history lesson, unselfishness, strangers helping ...

Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Keepsake Stories; Brighter Child)3 reviews
Candice F. (RTL) Ransom

Fitzgerald Books, 2007

Great kids storr!
We love the illustrations and the story about the three bears. I liked that the author gave a reason on how the Bears knew Goldilocks had touched the porridge, chair and bed. I also like that the baby bear has a squeaky voice - that's fun to read out loud - the kids enjoy the baby bear voice :)

Sunfire #17 Sabrina1 review
Candice F. Ransom

Scholastic, 1986

Great novel for that early teen girl
I loved reading this book as a young teenager. Unfortunately, I have out grown it and would love to see it in the hands of a young girl interested in romance novels!

Kathleen (Sunfire, No 8)6 reviews
F. Candice Ransom

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1985

So is it worth it?
To a collector of Scholastic's late, lamented young adult historical romances, the tale of Kathleen is the "holy grail". Is it worth it? Not as moving as Emily but it features so much more than your typical Sunfire. Kathleen watches her world crumble around her - sometimes, literally. She loses her home, her family, and finds herself alone in an 1840's Boston that is none to friendly to the ...

Fire in the Sky (On My Own History)2 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

First Avenue Editions, 1997

Fictionalized account of the Hindenburg disaster
Young nine-year-old Stenny was used to losing - at everything! His interest in models, however, leads him to become a hero with his family and friends. The author, Candice Ransome, takes on a challenge writing about such a well known disaster but her research and storytelling skills will entice many young boys to pick up what could very possibly be their first historical fiction book. Shelly ...

Children of the Civil War (Picture the American Past)2 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Carolrhoda Books, 1998

Good Introduction to the Civil War.
Enjoyable for ages 6-12. (A read to me book for younger readers.) The text is understandable, interesting and accompanied by photos or drawings on almost every page. True stories of children--southern, northern, black and white--provide an excellent understanding of the impact of the war on children and adults. Unlike some other childrens' civil war books that I have seen, there are no curse ...

Sabrina (Sunfire, No 17)3 reviews
Candice F. Ransom

Scholastic, 1993

the best
hi, i usually find romance books sappy, but this one was by far the best i have ever read. it's well written, the character actually has a personality (the girl, i mean, the guy always has such an overbearing one), and she is active in the war! how many girl spies did you see running around in 1776? Bravo!
