Good Foundation in Biology
I have taught Biology for the GCSE and IGCSE using this book. I myself am now pursueing my Masters in Biology back here in the States. The clear, concise information from this well organized, pleasantly presented, and readable text is still helping me even as I advance in my career. The organization and student friendly style help students to gain an overall perspective and relevance of the ...

Among the best in a breakthrough series of paperbacks
This is one in a series of several dozen volumes which comprise the "Harvard Business Review Paperback Series." Each offers direct, convenient, and inexpensive access to the best thinking on the given subject in articles originally published by the Harvard Business Review. Presumably two of the criteria for determining which articles to include are (a) frequency of reprint requests and (b) ...

Not very simplistic but very clear and explanatory.
Like the other reviewer said, this book has been written with clarity, conciseness, and readability. Glad to see still some authors are trying to express the relatively abstract ideas in a smooth and readable manner to help readers not terrifying them.

Practical Makeovers: Using Feng Shui (Practical makeovers)

Great for beginners
This was the first Feng Shui book I read (I have read now over 20)and I still find it one of the easiest to understand. Skinner touches on all aspects without going into great detail which may have made it boring for a beginner. Nice pictures too. If you are looking for uncomplicated initial knowledge of Feng Shui, I would recommend this book.

Awesome Pictures
We saw this book mentioned on a Kazak adoption internet website and researched more about it here on Amazon. What a True Gem! The Photography is incredible and the side comments/stories etc go into quite a bit of Kazak culture and traditions. Its a very nice 'coffee table' book. Definitely recommend

The Other Side of the Popular: Neoliberalism and Subalternity in Latin America

Uneven in quality, but neverthless important.
As everywork in the field of Cultural Studies, where there's no hierarchy of subject matter in terms of intrinsec, objective relevance, this work is uneven in quality, in that subjects covered go from harcore politics and sociology to something not above the level of innuendo. Neverthless, this work has a singlepiece - the analysis of neoliberal ideology in Peru as expressed in the late work by ...
The Fullness of Space

A Matter of Great Astronomical Importance
This wonderful book has been written for amateur astronomers (and for more advanced students of astronomy) who would like to learn about the matter that exists in interstellar space. This sounds like a rather dry subject, but think of how many times you have looked at astonishing pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope and wished that you had a better understanding of what you were seeing? ...
Postcolonial Criticism (Longman Critical Readers)

Bart Moore-Gillert

, 1998
excellent extended introduction to ten exemplary essays
The long and admirable 70 page introduction outlines the postcolonial field of studies in as succinct and lucid a manner as possible taking special care to note that in this field there is no such thing as consensus. The fields most marked characteristic is perhaps its diversity which is not too surprising given the wide scope of historic, cultural and psychic circumstance now under its scrutiny. ...
Advanced Biology for You
Gareth Williams
Nelson Thornes
, 2001
Topics are presented as double page spreads (learning units) so that material is presented in manageable sections. The reading age has been carefully controlled, and the text written to ensure clear and unambiguous explanations. Great care has been taken with the sequencing and development of concepts, while assuming that the student had only an average grade at GCSE level. More difficult sections are clearly marked so that they can be omitted ...
The Influence of Tolstoy on Readers of His Works (Studies in Slavic Language and Literature)

A Strange and Disappointing Reference Book
Just a short note on this volume of a series examining Slavic literature. I special ordered it from the library, so as not to spend $100+ for something unseen. It was a beautiful looking book, red cover engraved with the publisher's name. The pages were coarse and a lovely shade of ivory, giving it a heft of substance. The type was odd. It was literally "typed" -- not that I could feel the ...

Not the best finite book but good enough
In the last three years, I have been using "Finite Mathematics: An Applied Approach" by Sullivan and Abe Mizrahi in my finite class. While the book is adequate, I didn't consider it exceptional. I recently examined "Finite Mathematics" by Frank Wilson and consider it the book that I will use if and when I teach finite again. Since I am always on the lookout for new and better books, I examined ...
