Foxfire 3, A Great Study in past life
this series covers animal care, banjos and dulcimers, wild plant foods, butter churns, ginseng and more. All of the foxfire books have a similar format: interviews with elders who practice a specific handicraft. Get them all, they are great.

Remember, don't give up your history........
It could all change. How you live, how much you provide for yourself. Whether or not you can build your own shelter, feed and clothe your family, and tend to simple health remedies. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. It is already turning. Read about those who spoked it. Relearn their lessons and your own historical heritage. Maybe 2012 is just a Mayan myth. Maybe it's not. Take a look at ...

ANOTHER GREAT OFFERING
This work, Volume VI, is like the others. A wonderful history of how it was. In this day and age of having most needs meet and something for everyone on the Wal-mart shelf, we tend to forget just what it was like in our not too distant past. These books, the Foxfire books, brings to light skills, attitudes and a way of life that is all but forgotten. This is a good thing. When a people lose their ...

WONDERFUL REFERENCE BOOK AND INTERESTING READ
The Foxfire books are a wonderful thing and we are so lucky to have them. Many of the ways, crafts, planting lore, animal lore, and as the book says "affairs of plain living" are preserved here. This particular volume includes oral histories of the Great Depression, CCC Camps and their impact on the local areaa and ecomomy, folk art, chair makeing, and of special interest to me, gourd art. This ...

Best Book About Religion in the South
In my opinion, this is the best popular culture book ever written about the importance of religion in the South. Whether you're a Southerner by birth, a researcher, or just curious, you'll find something of interest here. I was born and raised in southern Virginia, and raised a Baptist, and the entire book rings true to what I saw and felt as I was growing up. But more than that, I was ...

The Foxfire 40th Anniversary Book: Faith, Family, and the Land5 reviews

Four decades of Foxfire
The "Foxfire 40th Anniversary Book" is a wonderful tribute to the people of Appalachia as they shared memories of their lives and culture with us. This book follows the same down-to-earth tone as the preceeding volumes. The earlier ones were very informative and enjoyable, and this one certainly lives up to that standard.

ONE OF THE BETTER FOXFIRE OFFERINGS.
To start, pay no attention to Publisher's Weekly when the whine about the repeativeness of the Foxfire books. The reviewer obviously has not read all the books. I own, read and use almost all of the Foxfire books. Actually, we owe both the Foxfire people and we certainly owe the characters of a gone generation. This work, Volume 12, is indeed like the others. That is a good thing! A wonderful ...

Outstanding
The entire Fox Fire colledtion should be required reading for all people of this country. You would get a feel for where we came from and our heritage. The books show a deep respect for each other, God and country. Very good.

Just Like The Good Old Days
Out of the four that I have read it gives me a warm feeling inside to read them and puts a smile on my face. The students that did the research did a yeoman's job of it. They will make you proud of them with their sensitivity and caring. We all would be better off if America was like that now. Old people are a valuable resource of knowledge and humor. These books are superb.

Foxfire 11
I added this book to my father's collection of Foxfire books. The series is incredibly useful. I would highly recomend it to anyone who wants to learn more about basic living. It is clearly written and very entertaining. My dad finds many "projects" that he has already done ( being a hunter and living on a farm) but also it brings back many good memories of childhood when his family used to ...
