A good undergra review of methods and bkgnd of HCI
IMO great for undergrad intro course on usability, and Human factors for CIS. Unlike many Usability books out there instead of why, it presents how and what.

Great resource
Overall, a finely-written and much needed compendium of arthritis information. Judith Horstman did a wonderful job of sifting through the medical literature to produce an easy-to-access resource for the (often) confusing world of alternative arthritis treatments.

Your History Revisited
I really appreciate the fact that the 2 previous reviewers took some time to give a critical analysis of this important book. However, I would hope that in the future they would check their own facts before making brash statements, which themselves were off base. First of all the author was not the artist who rendered the pictures for the book. In fact each page has his signature at the ...

Lambda-Calculus and Combinators: An Introduction
J. Roger Hindley,
Jonathan P. Seldin
Cambridge University Press
, 2008
Combinatory logic and lambda-calculus, originally devised in the 1920's, have since developed into linguistic tools, especially useful in programming languages. The authors' previous book served as the main reference for introductory courses on lambda-calculus for over 20 years: this long-awaited new version is thoroughly revised and offers a fully up-to-date account of the subject, with the same authoritative exposition. The grammar and basic ...

Singhal has done some of the finest work every not only documenting but explaining the success of a powerful behavioral intervention--entertainment education. Raw, Realistic, Gripping
This is a stark but gripping look at gangs, drugs, and life in public housing. In 1989, sociology student Sudhir Venkatesh walked from the University of Chicago to nearby housing projects to survey residents, only to be detained as a likely spy for rivals by the Black Kings street gang. Yet Vankatesh was soon befriended by gang leader J.T., and for the next few years he alternated between the ...

He's Spot-On Again
When Jim Rogers speaks, I listen; when he writes something, I read it. If you go back years and years and check out what Rogers anticipated and predicted, he's been consistently accurate. His perceptions, opinions, and predictions in the 1980s and 90s, were spot-on. With "Hot Commodities" he does it again in many areas: geopolitics, equities, bonds, current and future international political ...

Excellent Overview of Tic Disorders and Natural Alternative Treatment Options
This was an informative book. There certainly is hope for those suffering from these disorders that doesn't necessarily have to involve dangerous drugs. I am a candidate for a doctorate as a Naturopath and will use this in my resource library. The question to always ask is what is my body/mind trying to tell me with regard to my symptoms. This book will guide you to look at the symptoms and ...

A superb book about logical positivism
Ayer is simply fed up with metaphysical and religious claims that appear to be nonsensical. So he makes us ask the following question about any claim we feel is hard to interpret: "Would any observations be relevant to the determination of its truth or falsehood?" That gets us away from having to worry about what otherwise might appear to be cognitive remarks, such as "god exists." If ...

This is a fine reference work that is both up-to-date and with lots of case studies. I have used this work in my classes for Consumer Behavior and have found it to be well organized, easy to follow, and professionally challenging. Students come away with a healthy appreciation from the perspective of both the marketer and the consumer. It definitely changes the way they look at consumerism.

Pleasant surprise
While cleaning out a closet full of books at the community center where I serve as its Educational Director, this book falls off of the shelf. It has been the most enlightening book I have ever read! The previous reviewers have spoken ever so eloquently, I will simply say, given the psuedo-intellectual, "we have overcome" times we live in, J.A. Rogers' work should be manditory reading for all. ...

My wife and I found this book very helpful, prior to our first trip to Japan. We have been somewhat fearful of this trip, because of langugage and obvious cultural differences. Nevertheless, this book added to our understanding of current cultural traits, ideas, and ideals in Japan; their historical origins; their meaning to both Japanese and first-visit foreigners; and the countervailing ...

Keeping It Real
I don't have teenaged girls (or any girls, for that matter), but I have worked with them--junior high and high school. I wish I had this book when I worked with them. Heather writes with a clear and teenaged style. In this book, she addresses "gabbing, goals, and goodies." The topics may seem random, but they are the topics on every girl's mind. Boys, of course, what am I doing with my ...
