Real Christianity14 reviews
William Wilberforce

Victor, 2005

Amazing Grace
It is an excellent book. Many who preach christianity should read this book to know what it really means to be a Christian - to walk by the teachings of Christ. As Gandhi said, if the Christians imitated the ways of Christ, there will be no need for another religion!!

Reformed Pastor8 reviews
Richard Baxter

Pickering & I, 1983

A Call to True Sacrificial Ministry
The Reformed Pastor was actually very different than I anticipated, being nothing about reformed theology or even theology at all. "Reformed Pastor" actually means reforming pastors, using the word the same way we would say "reformed hardened criminal." Hmmm. I guess that already tells you this book isn't one of those "feel-good" books. Richard Baxter was famous for two things: being a ...

Bird of Another Heaven3 reviews
James D. Houston

Anchor, 2008

powerful character study
In 1980s Northern California radio host Sheridan "Dan" Brody has always wondered about his roots, but did nothing to learn more about the identity of his father. However, when he sees his birth certificate, it includes the name of his sire. He wants to know more about his paternal side. Not long afterward, Rosa Waddell calls Dan while he is on the air to inform him she is his grandmother. ...

Wasting Time With God : A Christian Spirituality of Friendship With God4 reviews
Klaus Issler, James Houston

InterVarsity Press, 2001

Christian Spirituality: Deep, Historic, Biblical
Klaus Issler is professor of Christian educationa and theology at the evangelical Talbot School of Theology (Biola University) in La Mirada CA. The title "Wasting Time with God" is an irony: what people consummed with busy-ness and materialism consider "lost" time is, in fact, the very center of life. The book has broad appeal, drawing from an immense diversity of Christian sources. Tracing his ...

The Identity Factor11 reviews
James Houston Turner

Aria Publishers, 2007

Make Room......
I recently read The Identity Factor. I do not claim to be a genius (Well, sometimes.) but I read a LOT. Upon completion of the book, this is what I wrote to James... You, my man, have raised the bar! The Identity Factor is beyond great! The preliminary reviews of Bourne meets DaVinci meets Ryan simply does not do this book justice. There's little I can say to support this without being a ...

The White Dawn3 reviews
James Houston

Signet, 1971

An excellent book on eskimo life
I read this book many years ago as a child on a recommendation from my father. He gave me his copy of the book before he died. The book's details on Inuit life and how it is affected by the inclusion of the sailors makes for great reading. This should be required reading in school and for any Sociology course.

Farewell to Manzanar226 reviews
Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston

Houghton Mifflin, 2002

Great book
The book was very well written and you could actually put yourself in some of the incidents that happened through her life. It is very hard to belief that this discrimination happened in our country less that 75 years ago. Great read.

Snow Mountain Passage29 reviews
James D. Houston

Harvest Books, 2002

One of the finest books ever written about the West
This is simply an awesome display of storytelling, combining historical "fiction" with non-fiction (the latter derived from the actual notes and writings of a real survivor of the incident), and illustrating the incredible power of James D. Houston's mind and writing talent! If you want to actually imagine and feel and understand what it was like, to cross the western half of this country in ...

Move2 reviews

powerHouse Books, 2006

more intense than the sample pages show
After reading reviews in magazines, I was really interested in this book. What I found was VERY surprising and so much more intense than what the reviews and sample pages show. It made me wholly appreciate the beauty of the human body even more. Maybe I missed it somewhere but I had no idea the book was for AIDS ("Move for AIDS"). Also, IT WAS A HUGE BOOK. It really gave a second level when I was ...

The Second Thirteen4 reviews
James Houston Turner

JB Books, 1999

The MUST Read
[The author's....] The Second Thirteen is an action-packed book that you can't put down! The characters draw you in and you feel as though you are one with them experiencing all the drama through which they go! I look forward to reading more of Jim's books. This book is well done and well written. END

A collection of "graphic" art, of the Cape Dorset Eskimos.

Ghost Fox1 review
James A. Houston

avon publishers, 1978

WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE....
This is a captivating story that will appeal to those who love well-written historical fiction. The author has a decided flair for epic storytelling, as the reader will be riveted to this wonderfully told tale of abduction, slavery, and love. It is the story of Sarah Wells, a seventeen year old settler from the colony of New Hampshire, who is forcibly captured by a party of Abnaki Indians, ...

One: Yoga Moves
James Houston

Harper Collins, 2005

"One" takes yoga imagery away from the traditional and captures the yoga body in a series of striking graphic photographs shot in the USA and Australia. Influenced by his background as a sculptor, award-winning photographer James Houston pushes the human body to its physical limits and presents the viewer with a portfolio of incredible yoga forms. Inspiring quotes placed throughout the book complement the work, adding a spiritual insight to the ...
