All: A James Broughton Reader4 reviews
James Broughton

White Crane Books, 2007

Big Joy
With the release of this important book on filmmaker and poet James Broughton we are handed a unique experience, for it is "the very first book to allow the various aspects of Broughton's complex personality to 'sing' to one another." Broughton, or "Big Joy," was so vastly talented and led such an extraordinarily interesting life, that one comes away from this gorgeous and excellently structured ...

The New Kid on the Block14 reviews
Jack Prelutsky

Greenwillow, 2007

Poetry can be fun!
I think that this a great way to introduce poetry to kids that may believe it to be boring or stuffy. My son would ask me to read these to him over and over. We did a lot of giggling over some of them.

It's Raining Pigs & Noodles7 reviews
Jack Prelutsky

Greenwillow, 2000

The FUNNIEST Poems!
One of the funniest poems we read was "I'm Stuck Inside a Seashell"! ...And one of the poems is "It's Raining Pigs and Noodles", just like the title (and they don't even just talk about pigs and noodles - they talk about all sorts of other things!) All the poems are so funny and I was able to read some of them myself! ...And I learned never to take a bath all day and all night (Ha! Ha!)! I can't ...

Hug Your People: The Proven Way to Hire, Inspire and Recognize Your Employees and Achieve Remarkable Results11 reviews
Jack Mitchell

Tantor Media, 2008

The practical source for passion in the workplace
Jack Mitchell proves he's not just another suit. In Hug Your people, he puts his lifetime of business experience to good use in offering one of the most compelling and refreshing portraits of workplaces as they can and should be that I have ever read. After reading this book, you will be convinced that there is nothing hokey about making people feel important and appreciated, and, should you ...

Hippo in the Garden: A Non-Religious Approach to Having a Conversation With God7 reviews
James Ryle

Charisma House, 1993

God Still Speaks To Us Today
I came to know James Ryle through Promise Keepers. Then I later watched his testimony on "Life Today" w/James Robison. So I already knew about him. While I ws familiar with his preaching, I had no idea that he had written books, too(3 to date). This one was his first. It had been out 10 years by the time I read it this year. I was more curious than anything whe I saw the title. Granted, the ...

Star Bridge5 reviews
Jack Williamson, James E. Gunn

Del Rey, 1982

One of the all-time great SF books
Why has this book never been made into a movie? It has it all...adventure, romance, a Metropolis-like futuristic empire, the idea of near-instantaneous space travel. Well, that part of the book was probably the inspiration for the original Star Gate movie. But this book's plot was much more coherent than the revolt against the sketchy, androgynous tyrant of Star Gate. The character of Wu is ...

The Equine Manual6 reviews

Saunders Ltd., 2006

The Equine Manual
The Equine Manual is one of the most comprehensive, practical resources to date - covering just about everything an equine practitioner might encounter in daily practice from infectious diseases to nutrition to the pre-purchase examination. It is an excellent quick reference resource while at the same time provides much more in depth information than similar type manuals of past. It is well ...

Something Big Has Been Here11 reviews
Jack Prelutsky

Greenwillow, 1990

Perfect for teachers
This is an awesome book. The poems are very clever, funny and appealing to kids, along the lines of Shel Silverstein. The difference is the very sophisticated vocabulary that Prelutsky uses. I use a poem per week from this book for my remedial middle school students for oral reading fluency, plus I create our weekly vocabulary word list from words from the weekly poem.

Stargazing with Jack Horkheimer: Cosmic Comics for the Sky Watcher4 reviews
Jack Horkheimer

Cricket Books, 2007

Very Neat Book
If you are a fan of the PBS series that comes on tv, you will enjoy this book. I also think it would be great for younger star enthusiasts - the drawings and comic book style of the book would make it lots of fun for children. A very well done and informative book!

A City Equal To My Desire2 reviews
James Sallis

Point Blank, 2004

A collection = to the reader's desire
Sallis. Poet. Reviewer. Cook (chef?). Writer. His Lew Griffin series is wonderful. His criticism succint, informed, generous. This collection? Suffice to say this is the book to give to your lover, your best friend, the person you suspect might be your next, should have, could have been your partner. Someone who, in the dark hours you can count on. This is the book for them. And maybe for you. ...

Sparkling Harvest: The Seasons of the Vine2 reviews
Jack Davies

Harry N Abrams, 1997

A gorgeously illustrated story of Schramsberg Vineyards.
This coffee-table book actually makes great reading! It has splendid color and duotone pictures of the winery, the caves, the vineyards and the surrounding Napa Valley landscape in all four seasons of the year. In addition to telling how they transformed a mountain-side wilderness back into the Napa Valley's leading producer of fine champagnes (President Nixon took several cases of ...

Essential Moon Knight, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials)4 reviews
Doug Moench, Jack S. Harris, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

Moon Knight is the Best
Its been a little more than a year since volume 1 came out, and I've found that volume 2 is as good or even better than the first one. The art continues to improve, and being in black and white just adds to the mysterious feel of Moon Knight. This volume contains issues 11-30 of the first run of Moon Knight comics, first published in the 1980's. It continues Moon Knights battles with the ...

The Badge: True and Terrifying Crime Stories That Could Not Be Presented on TV, from the Creator and Star of ...4 reviews
Jack Webb

Da Capo Press, 2005

Great True Stories of Crime in Los Angeles and the LAPD
On radio, in the 1950s television version of Dragnet, and in its 1960s resurrection, Jack Webb was Sergeant Joe Friday, the straight-shooting, no-nonsense exemplar of the LAPD. In this non-fiction book, Webb tells the real stories of crimes that were too violent to be broadcast on "Dragnet." Among them are the famous murder of the "Black Dahlia," a woman who was tortured for days before her ...
