Required reading for all westerners with a far eastern bent
I was a hitch-hikn' looking for Sissy out there somewhere and along comes this book with the upside down fish-hook on it and I finally had the term for my favorite piece of women's clothing (i.e. 'the upper tenth of a pair of levis'). Ten years later I was having babies and was reading The Brothers K with my son asleep on my chest. Now, well beyond that divorce, I find "home" in David's ...

Wise Like A Fish
Lovers of fishing, or Oregon, or life, or the search for life's meaning should love this book. So should readers interested in thoughtful, creative and honest writing; or of clever, insightful and profound character development. Gus Orviston is an enduring main character, and his discovery of his brother, Bill Bob's, unique and beautiful self, by itself, makes the book worth reading. With a ...

Simply Outstanding
Beautiful writing. Simply one of the best books by a living author that I've read. If you have interest in great writing, baseball, or Christianity, you'll enjoy the book. If you're a fan of all three, it'll be one of your favorites.

Fantastic resource for understanding biblical aspects of worship
This book is a very well-written and thoughtful examination of the various aspects of worship, written from a Reformed perspective. Before you begin, it's important to know that this book does not define "worship" narrowly to mean "the singing time of the service," but the entire Lord's day service. Each chapter touches on a different topic, beginning with the very foundational question: Does ...

Most Excellent Resource!
An Absolutely wonderful resource, that is concise, and well laid out by catagory. Easy to use and contains superbly informative illustrations. I will continue to use this wealth of information as a guide. I can't believe the large amount of information contained in one small volume! Gives credence to the phrase that "good things come in a small package"! Changed a novice collector into a ...

Plenty of creative ideas for a rainy day.
Rainy Day Projects for Kids is an elaborate and creative work by Petra Boase. These projects will keep children occupied for hours at a time. It is unlikely they will complete many of them without your help, then again 10-12 year olds would easily complete some of them. The book is mostly for children 9-12, but I know a few "grown ups" who would not mind making some of these fun projects. ...

Imaginative Passages
Writes of Passage is a wide-ranging collection of scholarly essays, which while very theoretically informed and quite current, still manages to be very accessible. Anyone interested in the intensely interesting study of travel narratives and what they tell us about cultural assumptions will find essays of interest. Although Michael Brown's article on Neil Miller's Gay travel seemed a bit ...

Stunning
Tony Foster's painting all each amazing. The books is filled with his paintings and essays about his treks around the world. He paints almost exclusively on sight and that in and of itself is inspiration enough. Included are images of his paintings of the Grand Canyon which are considered the largest on sight paintings ever completed. Foster's medium is watercolor, but anyone will enjoy this ...

Critical Thinking in Religion
Too often the thought of critically thinking about religion is equated with blasphemy. David James Duncan provides a healthy environment to think, question and explore the cherished traditions of Christianity and opens the mind to walk in spiritual inquiry inclusive of other religious journeys. The author successfully portrays his deep desire to know "The God", but isn't limited by the ...

Into the Darkness
Excellent read, the author gives a very realistic view of the inner thoughts of those who are about to go and then eventually find themselves in harms way. I would reccomend it to veterans and non-veterans, hawks and doves, as well as young adults who are contemplating a miltitary enlistment or commission. Joe USMC Viet-nam '68

awesome/elegant ideas
Although I'm not a jewelry maker, I'm delving into this craft and found this book to provide marvelous inspiration. Great Book - But Wait to Buy
This is THE book for Rails. Top notch...only WAIT to buy it. As others have said, there is a new edition coming out soon that covers Rails 2.0. Of course...if you can't wait, go to the publisher's web page. They are selling copies of this edition for 50% off, while supplies last. But, some of the code in this book will not work anymore in Rails 2.0. Still, a great book and well worth it even for ...
