Definitely recommended.
I was looking for an edition of Austen's collected works that fit well in my hands, and this fits the bill. The pages are crisp, clean and the typeset is quite handsome (rather easy on the eyes). It isn't too heavy or bulky and the pages don't unknowingly flail out of place--causing you to lose your spot. For the layperson, the introduction is an added benefit, but if you're smart you'll just ...

Love's Barriers Delightfully Probed in Polite Conversation
Persuasion is Jane Austen's most sophisticated story and writing. She lovingly and incisively demonstrates the problems of being a well-bred sensitive person in a society that's more intrigued by social standing, money, and polite conversation than by good character. Persuasion is Anne Elliot's story. The title's initial allusion is to Anne's brush with matrimony when a promising, but not ...

My Favorite Book
Jane Austen's classic, Pride and Prejudice, is perhaps my favorite book of all time. Miss Austen's trademark wit and whimsy style of writing is appealing to readers of all ages, even to a modern teen like me. I find something, many things, to relate to within the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as I, like she, "[takes] delight in anything ridiculous." Since the moment I read that infamous line: ...

An investment in pleasure.
Any person considering reading PERSUASION by Jane Austen must have several thoughts in mind before beginning. This book is a classic, written by a master. It requires an investment of your time, your patience, your understanding and your attention. It is a book to be savored, not galloped through as if it were a modern fiction bodice ripper. If you are willing to approach this book with an ...

Fabulous compilation!
It's really great to have the entire works of Jane Austen on your kindle all in one file. I really like it that they included the year that a work was published/written. All the hyperlinks work and the text flows perfectly on each page - works great with the Kindle. And what a bargain!

Loving Tension and a Fine Balance
Jane Austen's comforting classic is based on the dichotomous relationship between reason (Elinor) and emotion (Marianne). Austen's greatness lies in her backing out of the box of 19th-century literary moralism and seeing the areas of gray in human relationships and within the individual. Over and over again in this "early" work (Austen was only 41 when she died) we see characters acting in ...

witty, enjoyable read
I can never decide whether Pride and Prejudice or Emma is my favourite book by Jane Austen. Emma has all the Jane Austen hallmarks - wit, exuberance, and laugh out loud moments, coupled with realistic, well drawn characters and a real feeling of being in the Regency (which is hardly surprising, as that's when the book was written). Emma is a spoiled young woman who has everything she can possibly ...

The Incredible Jane Austen
Whoever is acquainted with Jane Austen's novels probably understands that her place in literature is almost unique for the period in which she wrote. She traveled her own road, and in the process published some of the most entertaining stories of any era. Don't bother to look hard for a hidden theme or complex plot. I've never been able to uncover any such thing. But for sheer artistry in ...

Excellence & Erudition
I picked up this book largely due to fond memories of Pride and Prejudice (Enriched Classics), but I found Sense & Sensibility is an excellent novel in its own right. I'm not sure why, but I was worried that it might be a bit dry. I needn't have been concerned, as the wit and story both sparkle from the first few pages and it only gets better as it goes along. The basic plot involves two ...

Excellent background information
The notes on the opposite page of teach page of the book are very helpful in understanding the exact meanings and the connotations of many words and phrases that were in use in the period when Jane Austen is writing. The historical background of that era and especially the explanation of the social and cultural life is very illuminating. I hesitated to get this edition of the book, and I am so ...

Excellent
I think this is my favorite Jane Austen book so far, although I still have Persuasion and Northanger Abbey to read. Most Austen fans would not count Mansfield Park as a favorite, though, at least from what I've heard. It's not that it's a profoundly different book from the more popular Pride & Prejudice or Sense & Sensibility, but many people seem to dislike the main character, or at least are ...

Muddyboo's Misunderstanding
Muddyboo's review claimed that he had twice received this set with a flaw at the bottom of every page, "an erroneous word" there by mistake. Apparently he is unacquainted with books printed in the 19th century and early 20th century. They regular print, at the bottom right of every page, the first word of the following page. This was believed to be helpful to the reader. It is NOT a ...

6 stars for content, standard binding, good introduction
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book at all. It is a very good read, in a very standard binding. You get a good introduction to it and some nice notes which are helpful. This is set in contemporary times to Austen, and was the heroine which Austen least liked. Emma Woodhouse is young, rich and single. She lives a life of wealth and privilege in a small village just outside of ...

Excellent collection - excellent bookseller
The order went thru to an Amazon bookselling company in England. Couldn't be more pleased with their efforts. It took a while for the books to arrived, and I inquired too early as to a shipment date. They arrived the next day, by air mail. Good people, good books - a graduation present for my granddaughter.

St Fiona

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighborhood, the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and ...

Northanger Abbey: Janeites rejoice in this light and lively tour de force
Northanger Abbey is a gem. Jane Austen (1775-1817)has written a charmiing little novel about a charming little lady named Catherine Moreland. Catherine is 15 as the novel begins in Wiltshire. She and the hilariously stupid Mrs. Allen go on a six week trip to nearby Bath to take the waters. Catherine meets the fashionable and fast Isabella Thorpe. Catherine dances with the clergyman Henry Tilney ...
