Legendary counterculture icon and beloved Grateful Dead guitarist and vocalist Jerry Garcia was also a graphic artist of considerable talent. After attending the San Francisco Art Institute as a young man, he began to focus on music, but his passion for visual art never dimmed and he continued to sketch throughout his life. Although Jerry was once quoted as saying, I hope no one takes them too seriously, these unique visual improvisations ...

Not for Kids Only
Jerry and David have an amazing ability to create sensitive and intricate music and sing the most endearing words making a song lovely for all ages to enjoy. The children I care for love Teddy Bear picnic, as well as, the whole compilation of songs on "Not for Kids Only." The book/ tape combo is a wonderful gift for baby showers. Moms love the music too because its easy on the ears. Hats off to ...

Sometimes you see the light in the strangest of places
Great songs, easy to follow music, and all those words that I can never remember. Only negative is redundancy of songs between this and the Grateful Dead Anthology.

Good condition for an inspiring book of art
This is a nice book to own if you want to understand another side of Jerry Garcia, his artistic skills through blissful colors and scenes. Bought this used book for real low price and find his art pretty damn good, a definetive style he creates.

Dang, this is a great tab book!!
Let me start by saying that I am not really a Deadhead. However, I love Jerry Garcia's banjo style and I am a beginner banjo player. Therefore, I was excited to see that Alan Dalton tabbed out these tunes and made them available in this cool book/CD package. The Tabs are exactly what Jerry plays and they produce a cool & unique vibe after lots and lots of practice. (did i mention that it ...

Like A Smile On Empty Space
I've just finished reading this book for the first time, and as I was nearing the end I started thinking I'd like to come back to this again and again to be reminded of the spirit of those times, and the way to live into the future, and so this truely is a signpost to new space. The Rolling Stone interview is good, real good, but the stoned sunday rap is magic. Charles Reich (visiting Yale law ...

Is Hell a curse Word?
I listen to the audio casette with my children (ages 2 and 4) regularly. They absolutley love to dance around and ask to me play it over and over. They can completely relate the song to the story and we have shared many hours of pleasure from both. Maybe I'm a more liberal mom, but my kids are happy, good natured and love life. They have never noticed and could care less about the word ...

It was one of the best Grateful Dead books I have read!
When I read this book it helped me think in the point of view that Jerry was thinking, about the good and bad times, on and off stage. In the book he'll tell it like it is, about the way he precives life. Reading the book also improved the way I precieve life!

I'd give it more stars if I could!
I have the "Not for Kids Only" CD, which is great anyway, but the illustrations in this book, along with the included cassette tape, might have hit my all-time favorite kids story/song ranking!!! The illustrations are beautiful and silly and will help kids learn to read because of the predictability of the words and the corresponding colors in the illustrations. How could anyone NOT love it?

Interesting view of the life of a young Jerry Garcia
This book is an autobiography of Jerry Garcia through age 10. The book was unfortunately not finished due to Jerry's untimely death, but the book's publishers have taken great lengths to bring out what it was supposed to be. Many of the pages include actual hand written stories by Jerry, along with a typset version. The book provides a lot of insight about the early life of this interesting ...

Memory, Community, And Activism: Mexican Migration And Labor in the Pacific Northwest
Jerry Garcia,
Gilberto Garcia
Michigan State University Press
, 2005
"Memory, Community, and Activism" is the first book-length study to critically examine the Mexican experience in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Many books deal with Chicano history, but few ever attempt to interpret or analyze it beyond the confines of the American Southwest. Eleven essays by leading scholars on the Mexican experience in the Northwest shed new light on immigration/migration, the Bracero program, the Catholic Church, race and race ...
