Nights With Uncle Remus
LeClue 22 [Kindle], 2008
Joel Chandler Harris (December 9, 1848 ? July 3, 1908) was an American journalist born in Eatonton, Georgia who wrote the Uncle Remus stories. The stories, based on the African-American oral storytelling tradition, were revolutionary in their use of dialect and in featuring a trickster hero called Br'er ("Brother") Rabbit, who uses his wits against adversity, though his efforts do not always succeed. The frog is the trickster character in ...

A favorite old classic...
I bought six of my favorite childhood books for my great-grandson..."Little Black Sambo", "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", "Henny Penny", "Chicken Little", "The Three Little Kittens", and "Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit". My great-grandie is 2-1/2 and I can't wait to read these wonderful stories to him.

In English class one year in fourth grade we spent a quarter discussing Uncle Remus' stories. We discovered they were some of the most complex children's stories. The stories are funny and told with a light hearted manner, and are sure to delight anyone who reads them.

Song of the South
Song of the South is one of the most influential movies that I saw as a child. It shows us how to be happy in a lot of different situations. To have a positive attitude. The minority group should be very proud of this movie because the stories Uncle Remus told were positive reflections of life. This day and age we need more old stories of being happy in tough times. Please release this movie. ...

EBONICA CLASSICA !
My only exposure to Uncle Remus as a child came, sadly, from the cutsie cartoon by Disney. These are not light fairy stories of a zip-a-dee-doo-dah nature - they are paradigm stories that illuminate the human condition as seen through the clear eyes of a poor but wise old slave. You will not find self-esteem or political correctness here, but instead raw and ancient truth. The real Uncle Remus ...

not my old book...
i used to love listening to the brer rabbit stories as a kid, and wanted to share them with my own child. i was disappointed when this book arrived in the mail and i discovered that it is not written in the old dialect of the original stories. the stories are still engaging and clever, but they are much more fun to read and listen to in their own language. i will keep looking.

Brer Rabbit, Every Child's Pal
I give The Adventures of Brer Rabbit and Friends to every new baby I know! As a parent, grandparent, early childhood educator and school board member, I am thrilled to find a book that meets my criteria for excellence. Karima Amin has skillfully combined the richness of the vernacular language with current concepts and expressions familiar to today's child. The colorful, active illustrations ...
STORIES OF GEORGIA Reprinted by WJDasher
Joel Chandler Harris, 1896
In preparing the pages that follow, the writer has had in view the desirability of familiarizing the youth of Georgia with the salient facts of the State's history in a way that shall make the further study of that history a delight instead of a task. The ground has been gone over before by various writers, but the narratives that are here retold, and the characterizations that are here attempted, have not been brought together heretofore. They ...

Unparalled story craftmanship
I have just finished this book. It was a delight. Uncle Remus is one of the most alive characters ever to be portrayed in literature. Now, this is coming from someone who has read Conrad, Doctorow, Carrol, D.H. Lawrence, Robertson Davies, and many other engaging storytellers. Somehow, Uncle Remus resonated with me across the 120+ years since it was written. The simple concept of a free slave ...
