Imi Knoebel
Hubertus Butin, Jorg Heiser, ...

Hatje Cantz, 2010

This monograph surveys the diverse oeuvre of the ever-popular German artist Imi Knoebel, whose adventures in the elementary functions of form and color seem more relevant than ever. Opening up new perspectives on selected phases of Knoebel's career, and tackling many lesser-known explorations alongside his classic geometric/minimalistic fiberboard paintings, it examines, in chronological order, the artist's time at the Darmstadt Werkkunstschule ...

Dana Schutz: Paintings 2002-20051 review
Dana Schutz

The Rose Art Museum, 2006

Imaginary Color Queen
I just had the opportunity to glance through this book at a gallery where 20 or so of Dana's paintings are hanging. The reproductions are good quality, although Dana's coloration is hard to mimick. Some of the reds looked too red, but otherwise quite a stellar collection--humorous, poignant, original and artsy in a very fresh way. Dana is a rising star.

Doug Aitken. Notes for New Religion
Henry Grunwald, Jorg Heiser, ...

Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2001

The installation "Electric Earth," debuted at the 1999 Venice Biennale, brought international recognition to the video and media artist Doug Aitkin. In the piece, a dancer roams a transitory realm of wasted landscapes. Aitken, whose protagonists are usually natural landscapes and cityscapes, here links the electrified structures of our urban world with the nervous system of the human body. The piece, with its pop-surrealist overtones, also ...

Sterling Ruby
Jorg Heiser, Robert Hobbs, ...

JRP|Ringier, 2009

In a 2008 review, New York Times art critic Roberta Smith glowingly endorsed German-born, Los Angeles-based artist Sterling Ruby, calling him "one of the most interesting artists to emerge in this century. That's only eight years, of course," she added, "but the claim may stick." Ruby--who was born in 1972--uses whatever media suits his ideas; projects have included sculpture, collage, installation, painting, ceramics, video and printmaking. ...

Ellen Sefermann, Jorg Heiser, ...

Kerber, 2008

Featuring work by 23 international artists including Bas Jan Ader, Tacita Dean, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Rodney Graham, Louise Lawler, Yoko Ono and Frances Stark, this illustrated reader takes on romantic motifs (desire, melancholia) and methods (fragmentation, ephemerality, process) in Conceptualism, thwarting the conventional opposition between romantic inwardness and conceptual rationalism.

All of a Sudden: Things that Matter in Contemporary Art
Jorg Heiser

Sternberg Press, 2008

Contemporary art is booming: there are more artists, more collectors, more venues, more fairs, more museums and definitely more hype then ever before. What s missing are criteria that define quality. That's what Jörg Heiser explores in this wonderful critical book, in which he uses a sharp summary of contemporary art since Marcel Duchamp to make his points. When it's good, Heiser claims, art hits where it hurts, striking at the heart of an ...

Dana Schutz: If It Appears in the Desert
Jorg Heiser, Dana Schutz

Walther Konig, 2009

New York-based Dana Schutz is widely considered one of the most talented painters of her generation. As The New York Times ' Holland Cotter wrote in 2007, "She's a terrific painter. From the start, her broad, sardonic, cartoon-expressionist style was prodigious but also focused. There was lots of splash, but the images were strong and centered. Her gallery shows were thematically tight without being programmatic, like a book of poems that reads ...

Richard Artschwager: The Hydraulic Door Check (German Edition)
John Yau, Jorg Heiser, ...

Walther Konig, Koln, 2002

One of the pioneers of contemporary object and installation art, Richard Artschwager's three-dimensional paintings and two-dimensional sculptures wittily evoke associations with commonplace objects such as furniture and household appliances. Accompanying essays consider Artschwager's artistic development, the meaning of surface quality in his work, and his place within the context of relevant art movements. Edited by Peter Noever. Essays Jörg ...

Martin Gostner: Of Milk And Honey (Art Catalogue)
Necmi Sunmez, Jorg Heiser, ...

Richter Verlag, 2004

In his sculptures, installations, and objects, Martin Gostner is critically engaged with history and memory. This is partly achieved through an ironic dissociation of familiar materials, like soft cotton wool, that reveals the historically imprecise subjectivity of so-called official history. Gostner's poetic works involving language are included as well. Essays by Jörg Heiser and Necmi Sönmez. Hardcover, 8.5 x 12 in. / 48 pgs / 6 color and 27 ...

Christian Jankowski: Play
Jorg Heiser, Christian Jankowski

De Appel Foundation, Amsterdam, 2003

German video artist Christian Jankowski likes to play, as in these stills from his videos, in which he uses a bow and arrow to hunt for his daily necessities at a supermarket, invites passersby to sit in a storefront window and express their personal shame (with no time limit), is turned into a dove by a magician for the duration of a three-week exhibition, and asks TV fortune-tellers for predictions about his career as an artist. Edited by ...

Saadane Afif: Power Chords
Andre Cadere, Jorg Heiser, ...

JRP|Ringier, 2007

Displacement and contrast, classification and the unclassifiable, toys--Saadane Afif is one of the most inventive contemporary artists working in France, and his work, which employs objects, scale models, sound and writing, can transform an installation into a song, an Andre Cadere sculpture into a lightshow or a guitar into a clock.
