My Daughter LOVES Principessa!
My one-year-old daughter adores this book. Every day she digs it out of her pile of books and follows me around the room saying, "Prinshpess, Prinshpess" until I read it to her. She has her favorite pictures and loves to point them out as we reach them in the book. And, I think the lesson of how siblings can learn to enjoy each other is wonderfully and gently told. I also appreciate how Mama ...

Abrams Publishing House is the only great art publisher.
This book is a treasure; it is a rare sight to see an art book that faithfully reproduces works, some of which I have personally seen. Gary is a consummate watercolor artist, respectful of his medium and subjects; this is beautifully captured by the incredible color photography and the intelligent, inspired comments by Judith Gordon, This book is a treat for anyone who loves flowers and ...

This book is perfect for anyone who teaches adults!
I read this book for work, and it was wonderful! It is well written, easy to read, and very interesting. My company builds CBT's. I found a lot of information in the book that will help us to build better CBT's. Morgan and is collegues are up to date on all of the latest learning theories. I hightly recommend this book.

Great book for kids AND parents
Kids love repetition, but after reading most children's books to my toddler, I am heartily sick of them. Not this one. It has a gentle but engaging plot and rhythmic phrases that your child will quickly remember and repeat along with you. The dialogue is fun and the characters memorable. My daughter now ranks "Nell Nugget" and "Nasty Galoot" right up there with "Madeline" in terms of ...
American Star Work Coverlets

Author's comments
Star-work coverlets, with motifs of stars, diamonds, and/or flowers, were woven by professional weavers of the nineteenth century. This book is the only one extant specifically covering these textiles. The coverlets were not signed or dated. But designs for them appear in coverlet weavers' manuscripts as early as 1819. A chapter in the book discusses some of these weavers and their ...

Six Snowy Sheep
I originally bought this book for my five yr. old but my one yr. old quickly made it his own. The dry humor and brevity of this book make it an extremely enjoyable read for kids. I'm just glad I can re-order one since our current copy is in shreds from so much use. What a great book!

Practical advice for modern parents
This is a WONDERFUL book for parents of all kinds. The Gordons understand how complicated it is to teach kids good sexual values--without being negative about sex--in our sex-crazed world. This book provides practical advice that covers a wide range of issues, such as: self-esteem, how families have changed, the media's sexual messages, school sex education, why kids need more than "just say ...

Portraits.
The book brilliantly discusses and displays photographs by Nadar and Warhol. It focuses briefly on the artist's biography and more on their collection of the photography (which are all portraits). A great buy for that photography lover or to be used for that photography history paper.

Kinsey Lies . . .
Why is it so hard for social and behavioral scientists to expose fraud? This book does an excellent job of subjecting these "scientific" fields to true scientific scrutiny while exposing one of the more blatant attempts to put political ideology before science. Kinsey rigged the experiments by seeking out people who would confirm his beliefs. People were preinterviewed before they became ...

An amazing compilation
I recently dug this book out on a whim, after having not so much as looked at it for perhaps five years or more, and was genuinely surprised and delighted. The stories are a lot more mature than I would have expected for a book marketed to children. I say this not because they are in any way inappropriate, but because they deal with somewhat darker themes than most believe children can ...

A warm, loving explanation of where babies come from.
This warmly told story of where babies come from is truthful and culturally sensitive. The beautiful illustrations show various sizes and races of families, and the normal questions kids ask are addressed honestly. I used it with my children and have given this book as a gift. It's one of my favorites.

Fun for the Little Tykes!
Six Creepy Sheep is really clever. The text is fun to read aloud as long as you take it slow, because it can be a tongue twister. The phrase, "Then, on little sheep feet, six creepy sheep went a-haunting" is repeated with each sheep disappearance. Try saying that out loud. It's difficult to articulate rapidly. There's nothing scary about this story, and it's very enjoyable for adults as ...

Better Safe than sorry
This book is very thoughtfully written. I like the completeness of the information and the right kind of information for a child. It compares good love (hugs and kisses) with inappropriate sexual love. It also states proper names for private body parts.

"Search within the book" would have helped
As a former colleague of Dr. Gordon's, I used the third and fourth editions of the book. Today I'm working with an executive doctoral student on a work-family question, which Dr. Gordon has published research on in 2000, and hoped to see if there were a few pages devoted to this topic in this book. Unfortunately, now I'm stuck because the publishers have not activated the "Search within the ...
